Alliant powder bottle size WHY?

After my never ending pilgrimage around the whole of western PA i have gotton lucky on finding powder and primers but my most favorite score of Retumbo and 8133 in a 8# jugs has me the most excited because now i cant get the 28nosler and 300wm out and shoot at will. I have found allot of powders that were scarce even when times were good. just the other day i found a little shop that was goin out of business (retirement) he had 2# of 4000mr, 3# of H1000, 8lb of RL26, 1lb of RL16 and a brick of cci 215's he said if you buy it all i will make you a hell of deal. he came up with a price and i said sold! i got home did the math and came to the conclusion that the price's he charged me were circa 2010 time frame SWEET!!!

Got home opened up my greatly depleted powder locker and started stacking powder i said boy this is starting to look good and took a selfie then got to the Alliant powders and they looked out of place with all the IMR's and Hogdon bottles then i looked at the RL26 8# jug said holy cow that's a big container for 8lbs of powder and i told myself that's ridiculous. So the only thing i could come with is that there is reason for it but could not come up with a reason yet. So maybe someone on here could shed some light why Alliant uses such massive containers. Cheers!!!

Alliant always has since I started using it 18 years ago. No real reason why. It’s annoying I know. Its also annoying that I have really good luck with federal primers in many rifles. The cases are so big and obnoxious compared to CCI and Remington primers. Lol

Yes they are i had to start a whole ammocan just for that brick of primers
You also have to be careful how you orient the individual 100pc trays if you store this way. The sleeves are loose enough, the primers, especially the 205's can fall out and make a mess. But yes, way too much packaging materials.

When I buy Aliant powders I have to put in he powder in an or Hodgdon powder bottle and re label it. Have a pill bottle adapter on my powder measure. Wish they all used the same format.

I know in the case of primers the cases are designed for transportation specification.

I've never dug to far into the powder bottle sizes though I to have wondered about it. I'm certain that at least to some extent it has to do with storage and transportation requirements and limiting total mass per unit volume.

So federal is the only one that follows transport regulations? Rem,CCI,Win all much smaller denser package. I think Federal just wants their primers to stand out on the shelf, a marketing idea.
The guy at Federal I talked to about some 210s pinholing said the mongo packaging was due to their primer's higher sensitivity being more likely to detonate if dropped or struck. Fact, fiction, or marketing? I dont know. It is a pain trying to fit their oversized bricks on the shelf.

First world problems..
Good one...
As far as the Alliant Powder(R) canister size is concerned, they were designed to hold 1lb, 4lbs and 8lbs of low density shotshell powders such as Red Dot(R) and Extra-Lite(R).
I'm sure there is room for optimization, but we use one size for each size class.
The pill bottle format wouldn't hold a pound of our lower density products, so we designed our own. Our competitors took a different approach, and pack less than a pound for some of the products.
Thank you to those that buy our powders.

I ain't complaining! I'd love a 8# keg of Reloder33 even if it was delivered in an AMC Pacer! :D
I made sure to build plenty of space into my reloading room for Alliant Powder!
;)
