All this 20VT talk has me thinking

Evan, excellent LR performance from that little FB case.
But I must ask, why choose the 55gr bullet for the 20VT? Just to shoot paper?
With the loss of velocity with such a heavy for caliber bullet in such a small case, terminal effects on small varmints in the field must be lacking.....no aerial performances?

IMO, the 32gr bullets just seem tailored for the 20VT, but maybe it's just me.
Yes, this was only for paper. It’s a gun I put together to have a cheaper option for practicing and “save” the big guns for competition. It changed my perspective so entirely that I now shoot a 22 PPC at 1000 and am trying a 222 out.

Understand.
I seldom shoot paper, only to affirm accuracy during load testing, as I'm all about shooting "hair". Living where I do is considered by some to be "varmint heaven" in terms of rockchucks and ground squirrels, and the 20VT is just about perfect for these critters we've got here. The 32gr gives "pleasing results" on both. ;)

But you're right in that the little 20VT gives performance all out of proportion to the case volume/size.

Man oh man a I knew starting this thread was trouble lol. I guess I should start looking for some dies then (anyone have spares)?
Rick I may reach out to you for some advice if that is ok.
Evan I read your thread while back and again after you posted it and lots of great info there.

Well Fern, I'll just say that to my best knowledge, not one guy who built, bought or traded for a 20VT has been/was disappointed doing so. To my thinking, it may very well be one of the very best small caliber chamberings for work on PD's, ground squirrels, rockchucks/groundhogs and similar size varmints for work inside of 500 yards. Some guys here have more than one.

If you decide a 20VT is for you, shoot me a PM and I'll help deplete your savings, but I promise, it'll be worth it. Every person who's shot mine, or seen it perform in the field has been smitten and proceeded in the quest to have one for themselves. Todd Kindler bugged me for five years to build/buy one, and once I did, he said to me "told you so".

Sorry though, don't have any spare dies to part with. But to save you time and grief, our buddy The CZKid here on AS makes premium 20VT brass ready to load, as finding 221FB brass can be a chore lately as Lapua discontinued it (for now), leaving only Nosler and R-P when you can find it for the parent case. There is talk that Starline may make a run of it, but that's just a rumor so far.

Oh I planned on getting some brass from cz kid to get started but I wanted to know how to make it myself and have capability to do it.
I know that if it’s half as good as what you say once my buddy and his dad shoot it they will be asking to make one as well lol.
I was reading Todd’s twenties book last night on the 20VT. I wish I knew someone local that had one that I could try lol

Aaaaannnd down the rabbit hole I go. Maybe past point of no return. Person I got the 20 Tac from two years ago had told me he sold his 20VT stuff to one of the local shop employees. Well I popped in on my lunch break and asked if he still had it and if he would be interested in selling it.
He made me a deal I could not refuse. 726 primed pieces of 20VT brass (221FB rp headstamp). Full set of bushing dies neck,FL, completion seater, body die and a Wilson seater as well (does this mean I need an arbor press lol). He also had a 21” barrel with maybe 200 rounds down the pipe. We both believe that this barrel may have been on my 20 Tac action as the person I got it from chambers his own stuff.
this is my first time I have seen a 20VT case and man that thing is tiny.
So now I have to decide on what action I and if I use this barrell or not.
I’m contemplating sending the cz down the road and maybe even my axis 22-250.
