All The Real Snipers work at Cabelas ..

Well guys I just wanted to share my experience since it has happened so many times I just thought I would see if others realize this phenomenon.

We have a Cabela's down the road in Dundee MI and I decided to stop by there the other day with my wife coming home from work to buy her her Christmas present a new compound bow and get it set up.

Had some dude in there covered in tats getting the draw length set up and everything leveled for her and she was shooting it a bit on the range, so I decided to step away into the reloading department and try and find a .204 cleaning rod

When I found what I needed I was coming back and upon approaching I was hearing him talk about how he was a sniper and he was already engaging my wife in the whole conversation trying to impress her while I was gone.

Told her he was former military and SWAT and US marshals and a sniper in the military
LOL

My wife told him Oh my husband is into shooting and reloads and builds rifles himself And is former military as well

She already knew he was full of shit so she was playing along giving him enough noose to hang himself

So when I walked in I heard him saying he was playing poker at 1000 yards with his 338 Lapua Magnum
I acted dumb and I said playing poker really ??

He said yeah we were using our Christensen Arms 338 Lapua Magnum that the government had a contract with
Geez I never knew the government contracted with them for rifles ? LOL

I said no kidding what grain bullet were you using
Then came the big long pause and out of his mouth he said 125 grain

;)
Ohh That was all I needed to hear it was time to have fun with this guy
I said I wasn't aware that a .338 bore would have a 125 grain bullet available

So he was in damage control at that point and quickly came back and said oh that was our high speed stuff we use that for close quarters.

?? It was getting better by the second..
Close quarters I asked geez I wasn't aware anybody used a 338 for close quarters work

He then said oh well that's our practice rounds...lol

By now the tension was getting real thick and my wife was wanting me to stop brutalizing this guy
I just looked at him and smiled and said you didn't really serve,,
He said oh no I didn't but I was a US Marshall ,,,

I wasn't even interested in going any further at that point.
I took the carbon arrows and the bow grabbed my wife by the hand and we walked to the front desk, we had enough of the Pro Archery department and their special operation snipers...

Another noteworthy item was good for a chuckle he told us when we get home and we want to learn how to site it in and learn how the pins work make sure you go to Youtube and watch all the videos.

LOL because ScrewTube and it's ultra cool tactical Influencers know it all,,,,,a wealth of knowledge there

You went way way further than I would have.
Unfortunately I have run into this with VietNam vets. Not that I ever met nor want to meet him, US Senator Richard Blumenthal. Then the late Brian Denehey.
Both liars. That both claimed they were VietNam vets. Neither ever set foot in VietNam. Denehey actually said he did 5 tours. In VietNam each tour was one year.
5 years? Your brain is fully scrambled.
In the end they both said they were misquoted. I even ran into a guy who said he was a VietNam vet But it didn’t appear on his DD214 because his mission was too secretive.
As a matter of interest 22% of the 2.7 million men who did serve is all that’s currently alive today.

Not at Cabelas, but I've run into a few of these clowns over the years too. It usually only takes two to three questions to reveal their BS.

What unit did you serve with?
Where in RVN did you operate?
When were you there?

It's amusing to hear the BS when it starts, and it's easy to spot right away, and as the OP mentioned, they all were snipers.

Had a guy visiting my neighbor next door a few years ago. He saw my Veteran truck plates and came over to tell me he was a 'Nam vet, and was in the battle for hamburger hill. They guy was in his early 40's at the time and didn't know the year that hill was taken (1968), and he was mad at the fact I told him I was not aware of any infantry guys that served in RVN when they were three years old. Ooops!

This sort of stupidity is why I make as many purchases as I can online.

Wonder if the brick and mortar retailers will ever figure out their counter people drive away a ton of business?

Probably not, can't ever remember a time when this crap wasn't going on.

As an aside, Cabelas is now owned by Bass Pro. Never liked Bass Pro stores. Now another chain has been ruined for me.

I commend you on your restraint. Well done!

22% huh??? Well . . . we are getting pretty old now. ;)

My brother in law is a Vietnam Vet. I have none him for 40 years. He has talked to me about it once for only a few minutes—- going to sleep, waking up and the person lying next to him….

Thank all of You for Serving and Protecting us. It should be criminal for anyone to falsely claim military service or valor.

I have only been into Bass Pro/Cabelas once - maybe somewhere in Oregon? I was driving south and spotted the store. Impressive - certaily by NZ standards ( we got our first IKEA 3 days ago =it's a wonder we didn't have a national holiday.)

I bought a pair of shorts, that I no longer have.

If you want to find out where all the retired Navy Seals and Special Ops guys hang out they all get jobs at Cabela's after they retire.

And they are always snipers

lol

Just leave your wife alone a moment at the store, and she will attract all of the special op snipers
I call my wife ... Maggie, when we are at the stores. That is not her real name, but, like a magnet, she attracts the weirdest people in the store.
