Alabama F-Class Championship.......... a big flop.

I think the person or persons who approved the deal, should be looking for new employment by now.. I'm sure somebody got greased to get something that doesn't work installed....... very sad...... jim

Since the major problems did not appear until months after the system was installed, it is unclear whether poor performance is a fundamental product defect or a maintenance issue. A lot of ranges have had hiccups coming up the learning curve on electronic target maintenance issues, and if they get it sorted out quickly and provide better match and customer service going forward, the eTarget fiasco itself is probably not a sufficient reason to fire anyone.

For me, treating range customers with disdain (eye rolling, blame shifting, etc.) is a bigger issue than technical issues maintaining such a complex system. If anyone needs to be looking for a new job, I would think it would be for this.

I'm sure both CMP and the manufacturer know by now that the failed attempt at a state championship match has garnered a ton of negative attention. They've said all the right things. If they follow through, this will only be a blip in the development and improvement of the finest shooting facility in the Southeast, if not the entire United States. If the follow through fails or is weak, the resulting bad reputation will likely lead to a lot of people losing their jobs.

I would bet it gets swept under the rug, just like anything that is remotely tied to the government. Look at Presidents mother in law getting 160,000.00 @ year pension for being a baby sitter......... money is no object, if it works or not ...... jim

Weeks of silence following expressed intent to investigate carefully does not seem to bode well for trustworthy and reliable operation in 2017. I also found this discussion on a similar occurrence in 2015 (after the failures at the Alabama State Highpower Championship) where similar promises of careful investigation and "making things right" were made:

It seems the CMP has a more solid track record of shifting the blame for missed shots to the shooters rather than legitimately investigating and fixing the problem. Some highlights from the COO:

Couple of things that were left out of your commentary... The 600 yard string with all the missing shots happened during a 12 to 15 mile an hour crosswind. In addition to the crosswind, many competitors did not have a spotting scope to read the wind at 600 yards. Most missing shots were shown in our system to be frames hits but this does not show up on the screen to the competitor which is our fault and leaves many questions in the competitors mind.

All of these fragments are small in diameter, i.e. .223 or smaller. For the shot to be scored the shot has to pass through the target. We have seen thinly jacketed .223 rounds come apart in flight with much frequency in years past during the conduct of SAFS at Camp Perry. Fast rates of twist, thin jackets, high velocity, and long distances are all pushing the envelope concerning .223. We all forget that along the way.

The data transference problems have been resolved. (Mark Johnson, COO, 11-6-2015) Apparently they have not been resolved.

We will continue to test. We will also post our calibration targets before each match. The KTS target vs the paper target calibration. (Mark Johnson, COO, 11-3-2015)

Where were the "calibration targets" posted before the Alabama F-Class Championship match on 22 October? Where were the "calibration targets" posted for the F-Class matches at Talladega earlier in 2016. I attended several of these matches, and I did not see any calibration targets posted anywhere. Maybe they are online? Can a link be provided?

Mark Johnson should provide proof
of the posting of the calibration targets before each match, or admit CMP has failed to follow through on a very clear promise.

How many Mulligans do they think the Talladega CMP is gonna get when the COO continues to shift blame to shooters, fails to follow up, and falls short on living up to promises of improvement after one failed match?
