Air rifle scope recommendation

The Hawke scopes are heavy, but work very well and have excellent varmint reticles. Try "Air Rifle Main Page" classifieds ,you'll get a better feel once you get with strictly air rifle shooters. also the "Yellow Pages" Air Rifles classifieds. Hope it helps........

I HAVE SEVERAL "SPRINGERS", MOSTLY FWB 300'S. OLD EYES FINALLY CAUGHT UP WITH ME ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND, USING THE APERATURE SIGHTS IS VERY DIFFICULT. A FRIEND OF MINE OWNS A "GUN SHOP" AND HAD AN ARRAY OF VORTEX SCOPES ON THE SHELF. TRIED FOCUSING THE "CROSSFIRE 6-18X" DOWN TO UNDER 10 METERS (CAN ONLY GET 30-31 FEET IN THE GARAGE). THEY FOCUSED DOWN WITH NO PARALAX. EMAILED VORTEX AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD HOLD UP TO SPRINGER RECOIL; THE ANSWER WAS YES. BOUGHT 3 (HAVE 2 GRANDSONS SHOOTING) AND HAVE SHOT OVER 2000 PELLETS COMBINED WITH NO PROBLEMS). HOPE THIS MIGHT BE OF SOME HELP.
I have a FWB 300S. It's a springer, yes, but it's quite unique in that it has the recoiless action design, and it's not stressing the scope any more than a CO2 gun does. So a scope that holds up fine on a 300S may not survive on any other spring-air rifle.

PS

Incidentally, I put an very inexpensive red dot scope on the 300S, and it works great.

Actually, the 300 and 150 series does in fact recoil. Due to the rail design in the stock, the shooter is isolated from the recoil, and is absorbed by the action. You can actually see the action move.

Yes they recoil, Newton's third law still prevails. But I don't believe the scope riding the sledge action/barrel is stressed as abruptly as a regular springer, especially a high-powered one. I could be wrong, but I can't find a definitive answer.

I just recently bought a Diana model 48 in .22, it's a side lever springer. I started with a Leupold VX3 4.5-15 Long Range, the only issue was it wouldn't focus close enough. Then I put a Konus Pro K30 8.5-25 on, it lasted about a week and the recoil killed it. I like Mueller scopes so I gave them a call about their 8-32 X 44, I was told it's not air gun rated but they had sold several for air rifles and they had held up fine. After they reassured me they would warranty it if my gun breaks it I went ahead and ordered.

I've ran about 300 rounds through the gun since installing it and it's been flawless, so far. The glass is way better than the Konus and it's cheaper too. BTW it'll focus down inside 10 yards.

This is a good thread.
My #1 priority for any scope (gun powder included) is robustness. All things being equal I'll take a gunpowder scope that can handle the recoil of a springer over one that can't any day. I think I'll call a few manufactures of scopes I have to see if they say they can be used on springer without being damaged.

Don't rely on a phone conversation with a representative. Pay close attention to the wording stated in the warranty.

Good point, I'll do that. But if the manufacturer says it won't work with a springer I can cross them right off the list. Good to hear Vortex says they'll work with a springer and a member has some data to back it up. But yes, I'll read the fine print on the warranty also.

I use both a Leupold 3-9 EFR 22RF Matte( has much finer Duplex X-Hair than same that they call Air Rifle Gloss Black) and a Burris 4-12 Compact. No problem hitting 1/5 size Turkeys Silhouette at 77 Meters with either. Oh did I mention there on a FWB 300S. Either scope will take the hammering from a break barrel Springer. Biut you have to have flags...with a 4 mpr wind you will get around 8" of drift. Good practice......I shoot alot offhand ,the turkeys are hard to hit( even with a 22RF but I use the 300s),the pigs and chickens no problem if i do my part......

Hi Folks. . . . i just inherited a very nice old spring Wehrauch air rifle with a good trigger and decent sights but want to put a scope on it and know next to nothing about air rifle scopes. Any recommendations on something that is OK optically and will withstand the recoil without breaking the bank would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Old thread but the coolest cheap scope one could have on a springer is a Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44. My TX200's spring broke instead of the scope.

That way you can learn the FFP mil/mil thing and it focuses at 10Y or less if you dial down the magnification. The reticle had .2 mil hashes round about so .1 mil, which is 1 click, can be both seen and utilized.
$300 MAP with street price less.

Another vote for the Hawke's. I've had excellent service form mine on both springer/gas ram and PCP guns. Excellent customer service from them as well. I've never had an issue with a scope but I did get one that has some rusty looking hardware. They immediately replaced it without question and included a hat, tee shirt etc.. for my trouble.

My .22 Armada with a Hawke 8-32x56 Sidewinder...
