About three months ago, a forum member who will remain anonymous contacted me out of the blue. I had never conversed with him, but he PM'd with an offer to build me an air rifle. He explained that he does this as a hobby, hotrodding Benjamin Disco's. After a few exchanges of messages, I decided that I was not going to look at a blessing with disdain, so I agreed to accept his offer.
The rifle arrived about four weeks ago. I mounted my vintage Weaver T10 on it and that is as far as I got because my daughter was expecting and things were a little iffy as far as her health were concerned, so my mind was on that.
Our grandson arrived on the 5th, but he is having some undefined issues...can't maintain body temp. He is in ICU at Pittsburgh Childrens Hospital. I have only seen him for 15 minutes. Add to that, a staff member at the hospital who should not have had access to my daughter's room and had not reason to be there, made his way into her room, closed the door and basically began to suggest things inappropriate, and actually leaned in on her. She yelled and he left. Apparently he has a history of this. She is pretty upset and her husband is really PO'd.
Because I can't do anything...not even able to see the little guy due to fears of unknown infection etc...I have been in my brain a little too much.
So today I dug out the bench, set up a target, gassed up the new air rifle and spent an hour getting it sighted in and shooting.
It is certainly a one-holer at 33 feet. See attached target. i started across the top, left to right. Then I shot the flies in the order of the number written on them. It took a few rounds to get it sighted in and then I went to the flies, shooting for the head. I shot in order as numbered, getting used to the adjustments on the Bald Eagle rest. At shot number 20 it began to drop a little low so I just adjusted on the last four shots. I'd say I have been given a winner. I am indebted to that generous forum member who picked me out of the thin air to give a blessing to. Tonight I saw a little of why God used him to do this. It was a break I needed, and settled my anxious heart a little.
