Aeromatch Bullets for high volume shooters

Hornady is introducing a match bullet line under a new name for 2025. BTHP is the commonality. Market shortage is a stated reason for a new offering that they say will be sold in 500 to 3,000 bullet packaging.

I’m curious if this will mean anything for their existing match bullet lines. The images of the bullets and their weights appear to conform to well-trodden paths. Hornady says they will work as substitutes for counterpart competing match bullets with existing loads. This will be interesting.

The 6mm 105 and 6.5 140 sound a lot like Berger Hybrids. Their G1 BCs are identical and they even advertise that they’re “compound ogives” (hybrids) and you will be able to use your existing load and “die setting” for these vs the counterpart equivalent on the market. Hornady is also saying these bullets will be packaged sequentially off of the press, similar to the ATIPs. I’m hopeful these will be a step forward for Hornady and be a more consistent option from them. That didn’t give actual prices but said they will be about 10-20% cheaper than equivalent bullets from the other brand (Berger). If they are Hybrid clones, it’ll be nice to have a Hornady match bullet that doesn’t have a very long bearing surface lol.

Relationships like that can be a win-win-win.

Us shooters get more availability and lower cost on bullets we want = win.

Hornady sells more bullets = win.

Sierra and Berger get a rip on the licensing agreement = win.

And as a bonus win --> in the case of Sierra vs. Hornady, more of my money goes to a US family owned, shooting sports company rather than a Capital Management Corporation, or (not to cast an unfair light on Nammo) in the case of Berger, less money going overseas.

Notwithstanding, in any of that, is the remaining proof to be found in the pudding, as to whether Hornady can truly replicate the designs they are copying. If there were cheating involved, US courts would solve that problem REALLY fast. Much more likely is a licensing arrangement - Hornady is up front in their videos to describe that these designs replicate known performers from the market, intending to improve availability and price.

There's some speculation flying around that there may be some indication that military contract influences are drawing this IP to be shared, pushing a higher volume producer, a domestic producer, to handle a larger portion of contract expectations, but I'm not certain I think that's the case, since many of the bullet designs simply don't correspond to military munitions.

More likely, these companies figured out they can win-win-win.

If they are in fact a Berger bullet, then Berger and Hornady have worked out a deal between themselves that will allow both of them some great increase in sales. Very nice merger for both and for the shooting world.

Two fine companies working together for our interests. Nothing wrong with that as it benefits each and every one of us with some fine bullets.

My comments are just my opinion.
I see a lot of speculation on there being a deal between Berger and Hornady. Does anyone know that to be true, or just a very possible deal?
However I can not believe Hornady would buy a major supply of Berger bullets ( if that are what they are) and resell them as they are doing, unless there was some sort of agreement between the two companies.
Maybe we will find out one way or the other, in time. Regardless it is a good outcome for us shooters.

They’re not buying them, they’re making them

I like the idea but instead of purchasing a 500 pack or 3,00 pack and they don’t shoot good then what? I would like to see 100 pack for testing. I have taken manufacturers word before and got burned. It sounds like a plus for shooters but we will have to see. I’m always hopeful but skeptical.

Hornady has always said the are a "bullet making company"
They do have a large US production capability and maybe seen
their sales slip in certain categories.
Hopefully they have improved the jackets and will give Berger a run for their money.
They usually are a cheaper priced bullet.
So if they shoot well and hold up, maybe we won't run out of bullets
in the future. Win win.

What's going to happen to the ELD-M line?
They just redesigned the tips of those.
