So, long ago I traded into a 40x w/ original barrel in 30-06. It has been very well bedded, the action is very slick, and the trigger is amazing. The problem is 30-06 just doesn't do much for me. The use of the rifle is purely target shooting and the range that is most convenient only goes to 200. Occasionally I get access to 600 yards.
I'm thinking of rebarreling to a smaller cartridge. I have 6ppc, 6br, and an AR10 in 6mmX. I have a long range 700 in 300wm, and hunting rifles in 6mm 7rm 7stw and 270wby. The AR10 I recently bought came with a reamer/gauge and lots of brass so I could have another rifle in 6mmX.
Just wondering what other people would suggest. I put it in this category as these were the cartridges that I was thinking of.
Anyone have a barrel or barrel/dies/brass along the lines of what I'm looking for they'd sell?
Thanks

Looks like you could use a 6.5mm to fit in between the 6 and 7mm's. A 6.5-284 might be nice, or even a 6.5 Creedmore, that's what I am considering for my next build.

I picked up a 6.5X47L off of this site a few years ago and man do I love it. Shoots fantastic, easy to reload, long barrel life and no recoil.

Hey Browningguy, you are in my neck of the woods.

WOW!!!! a 40X in 30/06 that's an old rifle. I think you should sell the old girl to me ! I'll give you $100 for that old rifle. hehehehehh........

220 swift.... never had one myself.. but i don't any 22's in your line-up... long case for your long action
you mite check value on that 40X -06 before you pull it apart too...

just a though....

actually a 6X47 Lapau is my next build..

Actually, its a short action. From what I understand, Rem made a few SA 40x rifles chambered in LA rounds. Only downside is that you can't eject a loaded round, you have to pull the bolt.

All of the 40X actions were short actions, including the 25-06 and 300 Win. Mag.

This is true and also with all the great rounds out there I wouldn't waste my time with a badly tapered Swift and no quality brass available, the 6.5X47 Lapua is a neat round but if I had that action I would build a .260 or a .260 AI, got Lapua brass for it now.
Wayne.

I think I'd find out the collector value of the rifle ..before i did anything..I'm 72 and never saw a 40x 30-06 factory rifle..and i shoot 40x rifles
