6mmx.284

Question about barrel of 6mmx.284. Is it about some as the 6.5x284? Looking to get into f-class shooting later this year and don't think I can live the barrel of the 6.5x.284 Any one have some advice. Sure would appreciate some advice.

Wayne,
Welcome to the forum. The 6mm x 248 will trash a barrel much faster than a 6.5. The.308 and 6br will both give you much better barrel life. You can buy great match ammo in the .308.
Both are load for, if you roll your own.

Chuck! Thanks for the reply. Glad I found this web site. It is full great information and I like that those that have been in this sport a long are willing to share their knowledge. Question? How does the 243 Ackley improved measure up to the improved 6mms. Need to shoot a lighter caliber do to now so good shoulder. Thanks again

Wayne,
I have no experience with the .243AI. I have a lot of experience with the .243 sami Winchester. My shooting buddy and I have been shooting the .243 in F-Class matches for a little over a year now. In fact Pac-Nor is shipping me a new .243 barrel for my Savage as we speak.

At 600 and 1000 yards I shoot 107 Match Kings behind H-4350.

There is very little recoil, the gun weighs 14 pounds.

Chuck! thanks again for the reply. I Will be doing alot of research in the coming months. Seems to be some interest in the 243 line of cartridges. Do know much about the 6mmx47? I have found some discussion hear in the forum about it. Thanks again Wayne.

Hi Wayne,

There is not a lot of difference between the .243AI, and the 6mmAI, from a ballistic point of view. It is about the same difference that one would see between the parent rounds. This difference will generally amount to about 100 fps to 150 fps difference. The 6mmAI is generally considered to be a better cartridge than the .243AI because of the longer neck. However, the .243AI is more popular due to the availability of good quality brass as compared to the 6mmAI. I have used the .243AI as a varmint rifle round only, and have found that it has never let me down for this use. I used it with the 70gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip, in my last barrel, with great results! Pick the one that you would prefer and have a lot of fun with it!

Cordially,
Bob Blaine

Thanks Bob! Just trying to acquire the most information I can this year so I can plan what rifle to build. I will be asking more questions. Hope that's okay with all the readers.
