Advice on Optics...

Re. Doctor Optic

I had the chance to fondle them, look though them, etc. The quality seemed very high for the price. The only thing I didn't like was the higher magnifications were in 1" only, no 30mm. Alex Roy at Euro Optics carries at least part of the Doctor Optic line. He's one of the advertisers here:

www.eurooptic.com

Arizona Gun Runners carries them also.

Europtic seems only to care Binoculars from Dr.Optic... I'll stick with the Leupold. The Target model with fine plex recticle in 8.5-25x 50mm 30mm main tube with target knobs and side adjustable parallex from MidwayUSA is only 849.00... If I save my pennies in a couple of months I should be able to afford it.

thanks for all the help.

gunamonth - I am thinking of getting a NF for my 6mmbr varmint gun. I currently have a VX-III 6.5X20X40mm and I find it just isn't enough scope for the longer shots. I'm thinking about the NXS 8X32X30mm or possibly the 12X42X30mm for shots out to 800yds or so with an NP-R2 reticle.
I see you have the BR model and, as I understand it, the only difference between the two is the side focus vs. front focus on the BR model. Is the NXS worth the extra dollars?
Thanks, shcal.

gunamonth; Thanks for the reply. I had forgotten to mention the 1/8 vs 1/4 click and the greater vertical adjustment differences. But my real question was the side focus for $500. Since I only shoot live varmints and I am currently focusing with an end-of-tube adjustment it seems no big deal to me. However I with the NP-R2 reticle I would plan to set up a hold-over regime for each bullet weight and yardage so that I am not always adjusting up and down. From a cost standpoint the BR sounds like a better choice. Thanks for your input.

I just got my Nightforce BR 12-42x56 NPR2 scope from Long Range Supply. They are a great outfit, you get store credit for $100 or other options or you can get order numbers from Midway and send them what you want up to $100. Credit card # to make any difference.

Be aware you need to send them your midway order, little confusion on my part, but they got everything resolved in a timely fashion.

So you can get a scope and rings for the listed price...not a bad deal!

All I can say about the Nightforce is its a great scope. The adjustments are true, positive and the optics are nice as well. I'll have to do a side by side sometime, but the NF's clarity seems to be similar to Burris.

I still stand by my orginal comment that the 6-24 Burris Black Diamond is a great value for what you get! The 1/8 clicks that some see as a downside are a plus, considering that F-class is going to a more confining 5 inch bullseye and 10 inch 10 ring. You'll need the fine adjustments that a 1/8 click scope offers.

RHINOUT!

Rhino: Thanks for the head-up on Long Range Supply and their deal, sounds good. I see that on some other sites the price of NF is going up. Has anyone seen a notice that NF is raising their prices?
