Advice on a somewhat reasonable shooting rest for bench and field

I'll probably make go with a bag of shot or two if it comes to it. And for those extolling the virtues of one certain product, I appreciate your viewpoints, but I think you guys may be a little more BR-oriented than I am.

I think your original post asked about rests and some of the guys gave you opinions. You can go to Bullets.com and look at
BE1152. $165. I doubt you will find a better deal for the price on one of the new ones.

+1...especially considering your stated use for the rest.

I have a bald eagle slingshot. Instead of loosing the cable, take one of the return/tension springs out, and lub the table with Eezox and reassemble. Super smooth and works like a champ.......
I changed the springs to softer and put a sand bag on the cable it works fine . Larry

Well, for field and zeroing use my wife has great success with her Bulls Bags.

She has shoot several mid to upper 190's with 8 to 11 X's with her .308 at our clubs club level modified F class matches off the large bag and a 197-12 with my 6.5x47L at 300 yds. on a dirty bird target with a 3.75" 10 ring and 2" X ring scored with the lower value hit if you touch the line)

Bottom line, these bags work, are portable and are great off the hood of a truck in the ground hog fields and economical.

This is ACCURATE SHOOTER. COM. You asked for a rest suitable for zeroing from the bench. For optimum accuracy this requires eliminating as many shooter errors as possible- You don't want to start load work up with false confidence because your rest set-up can't deliver repeatable accuracy. The BE rests are the BEST bargain going right now in the shooting sports. I paid $350 + for each of my 2 BE's 15 years ago. Saving $175 on one is worth spending a little time tweaking the rest into flawless operating condition. FWIW, if I could only have one rest, I would choose the aluminum triangle BE.....even over my Farley coaxial and Cast Iron Triangle BE.

Thanks for the suggestions. I liked the idea of the Bald Eagle, until I read some negative reviews. I decided to go with the Sinclair Lightweight: http://www.brownells.com/shooting-a...complete-w-rt-3-sku749008078-38097-63720.aspx It's a minimalist solution for someone who probably won't be shooting F-class or Palma any time soon and is more into the practical shooting thing, although you can get Palma feet and long legs for it. I figure I'll throw some bags of shot over the legs and pray really hard if we get caught in a wind storm.

Those are in no way, shape, or form, the top 10 shooting rests. The article is more like a Caldwell advertisement than a top 10 list.
What would your top two picks be ? I have no experience with any of the new gear, interested though.

The guy posted that same caldwell crap list on another forum a couple months ago. Just spam.

And to add to the zombie thread, Ive never had a real "bench rest" but I got a bald eagle because I was already ordering other stuff from bullets.com and figured I might as well give it a shot... I love it.

carb stud out of a kit from napa autoparts store will screw into both the rest top and the windage knob. if you are left handed shooter you don't even have to flip the head.
