Advice needed for Recommended Brass for 308

This is a Savage 10 FCP Mcmillan 308, 10 twist, and I see the brass is offered in small primer or large primer, can you help me out here? Which should I order.
Thanks, Bob

Lapua 308 LR version will light the fire no matter what the temp is....

The small rifle version may cause issues in extreme cold, like -30c to -40c.

Was out with a buddy once shooting, he had SR version of a HBR case, some did not fire, and it was not that cold, maybe -10c, set his bullets to jam, and they all went off. The bullet moving forward and stopping at the lands from the primer explosion basically increased the case volume to the point that the flame was not hot enough anymore. Only hot enough to burn the graphite off and harden the powder to almost a solid form, looked like cordite without the coating on the powder anymore!

BTW Lapua is the only brass to buy for a 308! Simply the BEST!

That pretty much sums it up. Couldn't agree more.

Note the Lapua Small Primer brass has a small flash hole like the 6BR. Normal 308 dies will bust or stick the decapping pin inside the flash hole if you did not know that... Just FYI

Excellent point. When I purchased some Lapua SR primers, I contacted Redding and they immediately sent me some decapping pins for the smaller flash hole.

Best manf brass currently is Norma USA

For those that are looking for Norma brass, here's a great way to get it. The ammo is Norma. You can fire the rounds and then have Norma Brass.

Box of 50 at a good price:

That does look like a great option.
Pretty easy way to end up with fire formed Norma brass.

I love my Lapua brass but I would not hesitate to run Norma.

I've done some extensive brass testing with my .308BR rifle. After testing all sorts of brass, I boiled the field down to Lapua, Norma and Lake City Match wherein I selected out twenty cases (within each make) weighed very much alike (within 2 gr). I then shot 4 BR targets (@100 yds) placing 5 shots on each target and measured the group. Lapua brass performed the best in my particular rifle, with Norma coming in second. In short, the consistency in the brass and life of the brass goes to Lapua in my book, although I wouldn't hesitate to use Norma brass, which I have as a backup just in case.

Curious, when doing this test, did you work up a load for EACH case? Or the same load in all 3 cases?

Did you test with new out of the box or fireformed cases?

Did you use Lapua cases before this test?
