Adventures in bedding...eek.

Never good when you have to plunge down through this on a laminated stock with a .625 counter bore.

A snug pin to locate and the front and back supported by a jack screw and the sides of the vise padded with some bison hide (really...bison hide. It works.). Then, channeling my 'Inner Stan' ;) , I finished a cup of coffee, rubbed a new penny along the sides of the cutter flutes, smeared some mold release wax on 'em, tossed some old KFC chicken bones on the shop floor, faced the East and turned clockwise 7 times and went on in there.....

Turned out ok. Pillars are soaking in acetone now for a few hours. I'll get 'em epoxied in tonight and see what tomorrow brings.

Wax on the counterbore flutes, never heard of that before. How does that help?
I always flip the stock over once the pilot starts to poke through the other side, wood always splinters at the bottom if try to run it through from one side.

Not exactly sure what the wax does but it does reduce the splintering on wood stocks.

I would have flipped the stock over and finished the hole but the pilot holes for the action screws weren't straight in the stock. Had to get started straight and go on through.

A couple others waiting their turn.
