Advantages of Neck Turning?

If you really want to scratch the itch, send a batch to DJs, have them turn it, then test for yourself.

What are you using for rest and bags?
In my limited experience, I've found more meaningful gain (meaning consistency) over turning by having whatever rest I'm using being in tune. Whether it be bag fill, ear shape, density of filler, location of forearm, etc... If you are using a folding bipod, the rear bag is a bit more forgiving but still can be tuned a bit and we can always work on position.
You have a half minute factory rifle that was designed to be just that. Pretty darn good and nice shooting!

Eric,
DJ's?
No bags at this point, just shooting off of an Atlas bipod and a closed fist in the rear. I do have a first generation Sinclair front rest and an Edgewood Gator rear bag both of which I need to start using. Given the the RPR has a round forearm I need to attach a polished flat aluminum plate to it so it sits in the front rest relatively flat. The Magpul PRS stock that I put on the rifle might ride the rear bag well.
Yeah, I realize it's a factory rifle but it's a hoot to play with some of the other facets of precision rifle shooting and learn a few things along the way.

If neck turning is an aspect of reloading you want to learn about, I say have at it. Learning new things is fun in and of itself. Enjoy the journey.

Yeah, I'll start with my 6PPC benchrest gun that has been stashed in the back of the vault for 20 years. I'll probably order up a 21st Century unit soon. I won't turn any of my 6.5 Creedmoor brass due to the overworking issue.

Pat,

Neck turning, not unlike case cleaning and annealing, can become a hobby all unto itself. Some guys find such processes therapeutic, apparently. Of the three, neck turning is the most rewarding, as it involves tangible precision you can measure, and is a form of machining, which is a man's work. Case cleaning and annealing, like scrubbing floors and baking cookies - not so much.
