ADL to BDL conversion

Taking the Wallyworld Rem 700 ADL (no bottom metal) in 223 to a BDL. I picked up a take off stock from a 308 with bottom metal. I am using this as a yote gun anyway - it is my first conversion of this type.

I am trying to do an ADL to BDL conversion. I acquired a short action stock. The issue is calibers and the internal box magazine., I have a 223 and it came with .308 internals. The .308 internal magazine does not have a spacer for the round -233. The 223 from the ADL has the spacer but it is too tall to fit with the bottom metal and I cannot get it to fit. Placing the internal mags sisde by side, the .308 is a touch shorter, about a 1/3 of an inch. Can I dremel this down? Any other thoughts?

I really want the bottom metal, it is a safety issue. We move a lot when calling so it is much easier to unload.

I guess I could buy the proper box, but it si 4th of July weekend, I have some time and a dremel. Which makes me dangerous to myself and others!

Thank you

I'd buy the proper magazine. If I couldn't wait, I'd use a mill file on the bottom of the mag 'till it fit like it should. .300" is a long way to go with a file. If you use the Dremel or a hack saw, you'll probably end up waiting for a new mag box.

I just traced around the box mag where it was below the stock, took a hack saw to it , and finished it up with a bench grinder. It turned out to be a 15 min project . I want to say you have to take an extra 1/8 th inch from where the trace marks are . I figured if I messed it up , I was going to order a new one anyways . You will want to wedge the box over a piece of wood for ease of cutting

they make small cut-off blades for dremel tools. mark your line and cut very close and finish with a file. if you do some careful measuring of the stock, magazine box and bottom metal you can get it very close. you don't want it pinched between action and bottom metal you should be able to move it a little bit when it is bolted in the stock. you will have to cut the spacer to fit also. good luck and get some yotes!!!

Fixed! This can be done! Using a cut off wheel on the dremel I took about 3/10ths off. Then I used a bench grinder a little at a time followed up with an upside down belt sander. Took a couple of tries but it finally worked out. I was patient, because I knew if I removed too much metal off the bottom edge, I wouldn't be able to shoot it tomorrow.

I took a little time with a bit of crocus cloth on the inside edge to smoth the follower. Works and loads dummy rounds perfectly.

Thank you
