Adjusting Windage with Burris Signature Z Rings

I have a Remington 700 Varmint rifle that I have Leupold Weaver type 2 piece bases on. I have a Zeiss Conquest with Burris Zee rings and have shot this rifle with no problems. I also have a 36x Weaver with a plain set of Weaver rings that I use on this rifle for load development with no problem. I just purchased another used Zeiss but this one has target turrets so I decided to switch with the one in the Zee rings. I sighted it in and I had to use 100% of the windage adjustment to get within an inch horizontally at 100 yards! Is there a way to adjust windage with the inserts? What options do I have other than switching to a Leupold regular style base and ring combo where I can adjust the windage on the base? I haven't looked at the other two scopes that work to see how far from center the windage adjustments are but I never remember turning them very far to get zeroed. Thanks for any help. Tom

Tom: I've had the same problem with two of my rifles, radical windage correction(s) required. All I did was use the .05", .010" or even the .020" off-set inserts in either or both ( my Sako required .020" front & rear) of the rings. Just set them up with the splits in the vertical position. Feel free to PM if questions or problems.

Thanks Frank. I wasn't sure if they could be used with the split vertical or not. I just looked at Burris website and saw the way to go about using them. Looks like I better order me up a set and another set of rings for this new scope. I really like being able to switch scopes without losing much zero so easy. Tom

Tom: Yes, so many benefits when using the Signature rings, just too many to not use them. Gunsmith re-barreled my Ruger #1 and did an outstanding job, but when fitting the quarter rib scope mount, he must have attached it off-center to the right. Ran out of windage, big time and it was easily corrected with the off-set inserts. Sako L-46 re-barrel job had similar problem when done by another gunsmith. All of my scopes now use the Signature rings. They also work when you correct elev. with one ring, and windage with the other. ;)

As you turn a pair of offset inserts from where the split is horizontal to where it is vertical, the vertical offset is gradually decreased and the horizontal increased, till at the point that the split is vertical, it is all horizontal. I you can do a little trig., using a scientific calculator. you can come up with a scheme to end up with pretty close to sighted in with your reticle centered, at which point you can do the fine adjustments with your turrets. It gets a little more complicated when you are tilting inserts front and back, but if you are patient you will get there. Several years ago when they first came out, I wrote directions for making these kind of adjustments, but when I finished I realized that anyone that could easily understand the directions should be good enough at math to come up with them on his own, and if he did not have that level of math, they would be incomprehensible...so I filed them. They had charts showing horizontal and vertical offsets for each 15 degrees of rotation.

Is it best to use just one insert or both front and rear with the correction inversed? I am thinking I need to move at least 15 moa to get centered.

If you have the insert set for 1" rings,ie 5,10,and 20,use the10s in he front and the 5s in the rear.
That should give you the desired result.Without an windage adjustable base,it's about your only choice, without gunsmithing.I had a wroblem on a G2 contender, that I had to put both sets of 10s in (30mm tube) to get the windage close, then disassembled the base and turned the Z rings around, and it cleard te problem,so went back to the zero inserts.I have the Burris signature rings on all my varmit guns, with windage adjustable bases except the G2.
