Adding Weight to my rest- help

I have a Caldwell rock rest . (The cheapy ,not the competition model) I'd like it to be more stable,so I am considering filling the underside of the legs with lead. The underside of the legs have a nice long and deep inlet. I beleive the rest is cast aluminum that is powder coated for color. Can I simply melt the lead and pour it into those inlets?

I have one modified that way. Be sure to drill a few dimples in the sides of the channel for the lead to form a mechanical lock or it will not stay put.

I knew a fellow who poured lead into the bottom of a RCBS powder trickler, without any sort of interlock. It fell out. He had plenty of lead and was planning on cutting a grove to hold another pour in place. I asked him if I could have the cast piece that had fallen out of his, took it home, mixed up some five minute epoxy, and it has been in mine since then....about 30 years.

+1 on the plate. I mounted mine solid to a 3/8" steel plate that i fabricated with adjustable feet and a level. Its larger than it needs to be but it super solid and my bench is plenty large enough for it

The problem with the plate is it raises the rest. It could be a problem . You may have to raise the rear bag on level or ranges that you shoot with a down grade.

I'm thinking I will add weight with the lead. I've seen the plate theory in action.
They are very sturdy, but as Butchlambert mentioned,it screws up the elevation a bit.
I shoot right along side of the 'bigboys' with my rest at present, so my thinking is
that just a bit of improvement of weighting it may be a huge improvement.
Thanks you all for your input,,,it all helps.
