Adding 'meat' to a lam stock

I have a stock that I bought from Boyds it's a laminate and I want to make the forearm more like a beaver tail. It's the pro varmint so it's already got some flare to it but the top half is curled over for finger grooves I think and I want to fill that in is there anything you guys can think of that could work. I would sand it and painted afterwards

Yeah, as bad as it sounds. Bondo is the easiest way. You could build a jig and route it flat so you could glue in a new piece of wood to shape. Is this for a lefty? I seem to remember that you're a lefty. AND...Are you a dad yet? Did I miss the anouncement?

Go back to Boyd's and buy a laminated blank to match yours - about $50.
Then slab some off the sides on your stock and glue pieces on bigger than you need. Shape with a cabinet rasp from Brownells. Sand till smooth and rub in Tru-Oil.

No this is a right hand. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do it. I've heard bondo doesn't last that long. I'm been thinking of maybe do something like this http://www.jamestowndistributors.co...zziqV3edHXSD4K9HJB7HhVbK5w8G9auIrrxoCfK3w_wcB

No babies yet, should be in about a month or so. I've been busy moving into the new house and getting the old one ready to sell. I've had my new .308 for almost a month and still haven't shot it yet:(

Since you are going to paint it, take it to a cabinet shop have strips glued on each side of the forearm, work that down and then fill any voids w/bondo. LDS

I've used a lot of West system epoxy over the years. I wouldn't use it like bondo. You can add filler to thicken it up but in "large, thick fills" it creates heat and cooks off, deforming and becoming brittle in the process. You have to build up in thin layers and sand between coats after washing off the "blush" formed during the curing. I'd shave the forend down and glue on wood, then shape it. How about this: Take care of your "more important"stuff and wait. In about 3 weeks, I'll have some time to do some fun stuff. Make some sketches of what you're looking for and send them over to me with your stock. I could get you real close in a few hours. A couple hours to glue it up and it'll be headed back to you the next day. I have a wood shop.;) I have to finish this bureau and get my boat ready for the summer fishing, first.
