Adams & Bennett Barrels

For the money they are a bargain. I have installed several and they all shot fairly well. They are in no way a premium benchrest type of barrel. They are cheap low cost mass produced barrels. If you look at one with a borescope you wouldn't like what you see. That said, I have done a few for budget shooters that wanted to replace a sewer pipe type barrel and several have shot sub MOA making for a happy customer on a budget. A lot of people out there aren't precision shooters looking for the ultimate in accuracy. Why install a Krieger barrel for a guy that's never going to shoot good enough to know the difference.

Who makes them for Midway? I was reading that A&D is marketing name? Interesting to note that Midway description says 10 twist but A&D catalog list for the same p/n 9.5 twist.
How A&D compares to Savage hunting barrels? if you may know?

I have one on a .223AI (24" 1:14 twist, Sav. Small Shank) that on my Trued/ Timed action and Rifle Basix2 Trigger is a consistant .35" shooter. Will do .2's for 4/5 shots at 115yds (my range goes an extra 15yds). Oddly enough it loves Sierra 60gr Varmiter w/ H4895. It is a short flat base bullet, but it will shoot everything good from 35gr. Vmax reduced loads at 3100fps w/ 12.5gr. of Blue Dot, to Screaming 50gr. NBT loads at 3610fps, to the 60gr. that I mentioned. I orig felt I took a chance, got it used w/ a couple hundred rounds thru it, but boy does it shoot. I guess its hit or miss. It is not my bench rest rifle though. They wear Kreiger, Shilen, etc.

I had put two A&B barrels on my rifles one 6.5X250 ack. 9 twist. That gun mod 70 win. 1" groups with 120 gr nosler tips .It will probably work better but that kills deer at 50 yds. so i stopped right there. The other was a 308 on a mauser acton which just did not work well at all. However i have built 6 rifles on mauser and springfield actions for guys down in texas and i am told that they all shoot half inch and under at 100yds. So yes i guess it is a crap shoot but not benchrest material for sure .

Like optics, the saying "you get what you pay for", also applies to rifle barrels, and as mentioned, it's a crap shoot at best. For anyone who tells me their $89.95 barrel will compete with a $315 Krieger, my response is "show me". After many years, I'm still waiting.

Can one looking thought bore scope say how the barrel may shoot?
I'm considering to get one of these in 7mm-08 and my friend has a bore scope...
What make these barrels so unpredictable?

You could probably tell if it had a chance to shoot good by looking into it with a borescope, but I wouldn't want to bet money on it... Some darn nice looking barrels don't shoot as good as they look, and I've seen a few that didnt look like they would and they surprised me....
Pretty hard for a mass produced barrel to be on par with a custom barrel that had a lot of TLC by hand put into doing it.....

Double what preacher says: I've had 2 "premium" barrels (shall remain nameless, but are leaders in the field), that I never could get to shoot, and several factory barrels (Savage & Remington) that are borderline ugly, but hold under moa, and groups actually get smaller as they load up with fouling/ "filling in the holes" I guess. My problem with an E.R.Shaw CM barrel in 250 Savage, was extreme reamer & tool marks from the throat all the way to the muzzle. Looked like a Nicholson file. Fire 20 rds.(all over the paper: 4.5" to 6" @ 200 yds. was common), and spend 2 to 3 hours digging out copper with Sweet's. To their credit, and I respect them for it, when I returned the barrel to them ( I live within a 25 minute drive of their shop), they apologized, said it should have never left their shop, and I was handed a complete refund check, a copy of which I still have.

i have one of those 300.00 barrels won't shoot when i look down the bore all kinds of tool marks . they run down the bore with the rifling not across manufacturer said that is ok would'nt make a difference in accuracy. dear abby why can't i win with this gun ?
