action sleeves

Questions on sleeving a bolt action?
Building an f-class/open gun with a short action single shot 40x action.
Is there really anything gained by sleeving an action?
Will this limit you to the type and styles of stocks to fit large diameter actions?
Should a barrel block then be added if a sleeve is used, especially if the barrel is a 30 incher?
Anyone shooting in the light gun br class or f-class have a sleeved action?
Thanks

An action sleeve stiffens the action considerably, and creates a much larger bedding area. A sleeved 700/40X will be stiff enough on its own to support the barrel you describe. A barrel block would end the need for any sleeving as the action would then be floated and not be subject to the torque and stress created by the heavy barrel and recoil. You would be good to go either way. I might suggest that if you plan on paying a gunsmith to do all this work, when its all said and done, you may as well have purchased a suitable custom action.

The action sleeve completely supports the action that's inside of it, hence the name sleeve........
