Action Sleeve Question

Daryl

NRA Life member TSRA Life Member NGAT Life Member
I have acquired a 40x action that has some pitting. I am considering putting a sleeve on it. How is a sleeve installed on an action? Is this something better left to a "smith"?
Thanks,
Daryl

If you have to ask the question then yes, it's best to leave the job for a gunsmith. Sleeves are generally glued on but have to be properly fitted. If the rifle is to be used for hunting or other casual use I would certainly reconsider before jumping in. Good sleeves are not cheap,$200) and the cost of installation will add more $$$ to the project. On the other hand, if that 40X is to be the basis for a custom, competition rifle, then the expense may be worth it. Here's an XP-100 with a Speedy sleeve. That particular sleeve will also fit a 40X.

Ray, Thanks for the reply. I have done some searching, and found places where you can have one installed for a little less than $200.00.
Thanks,
Daryl
