Action blueprinting?

It seems that a lot of shooters are having their actions "blueprinted" before a build.....what is involved in having an action blueprinted? My apologies if this is too much of a newbie question and should be posted elsewhere....

Blueprinting is basically making sure all surfaces are square with the centerline of the action.
The threads are usually recut with a single point cutter after making sure the action is centered, then the face of the action is squared off, and the lugs are squared off.
Then the bolt is dialed in and the lugs are recut square, and the nose is squared off.
It always takes more time to do the set ups than the actual work involved.
True custom actions do not require this to be done, hopefully anyways 'O)

Make sure you ask exactly what your smith does in his blue printing process, this has become a very loose term in the gun building world where alot of guys with a 2 week votech class in general machine shop thinks hes a custom gun builder. I have seen actions with chuck marks left on them, and tooling marks that were way worse than any factory gun.

not trying to be negitive but I've seen some awfull things come from a "custom gun builder"
