Having been a long time varmint shooter, I get the need for a heavier profile barrel, It just seems that adding length when it isn't necessary, is also adding in harmonic/resonance issues.

Most competitive F Open rifles have 30”-32” barrels. Although for 300 he doesn’t need one that long. There’s more of a balance between ballistics and ultimate accuracy for F class..
As someone else stated about competition although your club may only shoot out to 300 when you travel to another club with your club for inter club competitions the ranges shot in f open normally range from 500 to 1000 yrds. I would go with the 30 inch. This allows you to have it re-crowned once or twice before a complete barrel replacement is needed.
Even on the shorter ranges the extra velocity doesn't hurt will shoot flatter and buck wind better.

If you take a straight profile 30" 1.25" barrel, where the barrel sits on the rest seems to matter (to me) than the magical balance point just in front of the mag that many like.
With a breech to front bag of maybe 15" and bag to crown of 15" the barrel ONLY weight (about 8 pounds) will be close to balanced over the bag. The rest of the weight will be distributed between the breech and the rear bag. For a 22 pound F-Open rig, that's 14 pounds with more of the weight over the receiver than the heel of the stock. More overhang puts less weight on the receiver/barrel junction while less overhang puts more. You obviously need enough stock weight to settle and stabilize when fired.
