I did some work to my 452 varmint, with wolf ammo it shoots .3s and .4s at 50 yards. I removed the dovetailed barrel lug, free floated the barrel. Drilled and tapped the tang for a second action screw, installed pillars and bedded the action.

Sounds great, will you do mine? Just kidding, I sent mine to a well know stock guy that has pillar bedded almost every gun I own and he wouldn't touch my 452 because of the Cylindrical Nut, what's up with that. Isn't this an odd design?

I had considered doing the same thing, so tell me more ie; where on the tang did you drill and size of tap and screw???

Thanks, Gary.

Yes please share! My dad and I have a matching consecutive pair of silhouette's and he is always telling me how his will out shoot mine. Give me the "one up" on this so I can do it to mine and see the look on his face when I blow him out out of the water!!! ;D

There is only one action screw in the 452 Varmint. The front barrel lug (I assume this is the cylindrical nut referred to) doesn't hold the action in. I believe it merely "guides" the barrel down the center of the channel. It can't be bedded since it dovetails onto a niche in the barrel. I have shot with it missing, with 12 in/lbs, 14 and 24 and everywhere in between. Best was at 12-14 which was the same as no barrel lug at all. Just be careful when moving the rifle from one place to another.

I have a 452 american I bought in 2001. The most expensive and best ammo I shoot is wolf match extra. I have the action screws torqued to 20 lbs. I put a yo dave trigger kit in it and the trigger breaks at 1 pound 2 ounces. The one thing that cut my group size in half was a $10 Simms barrel deresonator that I picked up at cabelas. Same thing was $20 at gander mt. I had 3 bricks of the wolf ammo all from different lots and the group sizes from the various lots ranged from .4 inches to .7 inches at 50 yds. After installing the barrel deresonator all 3 lot group sizes dropped about 50 percent. Last night it was pretty calm and since I had just lightened the trigger to 1 pound 2 ounces I wanted to see what the gun would do at 100 yds. I only tried 2 groups as it was getting dark and shot a .61 and a .7 in. Group. While many would think the deresonators are ugly they can do wonders to your accuracy. I also have a nice marlin 17 hmr that was averaging 1.1 inch groups at 100 yds. After figuring out the best distance to put the deresonator I shot 2 back to back .4 inch groups. I only tried those 2 groups since I didn't think I could do much better. On both guns I have 6x18 power weaver grand slams with a target dot reticle and the marlin has a very nice rifle basix trigger.

The bbl lug most assuredly CAN be bedded but my experience with these rifles says to provide clearance at the bbl lug area and tap the other receiver hole for a true 2 point receiver bed. Let that bbl freefloat.

I don't know if 452 varmint rifles have the same problem as 452 trainers, but the right side of the barrel channel was rubbing on my trainer and I was having a hard time getting into the 10 ring. A few minutes with some 150 grit sandpaper fixed right up and now its an x ring shooter with any of the common 22 target rounds ( wolf match, eley, etc). At the bench it will shoot under an inch all day long. All results at 100 yds. YMMV.

+1. Just remember that when you are done with any sanding mod to the bedding or barrel channel of a wooden stock, take a moment to re-seal the surface by coating it with an appropriate finish (varnish, True Oil, etc) - applying a dab or two by rubbing it on with a finger or thumb tip dipped in the finish is sufficient. Otherwise, while curing one problem, you may introduce long term problems due to moisture absorption through the unsealed sanded area.

1" at 100 yards is no small job.....wind,ammo,shooter then rifle come to mind I think 1.5" would be a more realistic goal with the CZ.....I know this for a fact as I have owned many of them over the years

Sorry for the late response. Its been a while since I did the job. You want to drill the rear hole so it will line up with the rear trigger guard screw. Then you install a pillar and action screw where the rear trigger guard screw was.

I have accurized many CZ 455's with excellent results using lilja barrels and the factory barrels. I'm going to dive into the 452 hopefully soon once I get time. After looking at various pics of the action, IMO the version with the rear lug looks like a better candidate for accuracy. Addressing the rear lug can be done in 3 ways IMO. One you can eliminate it and drill and tap the action, two you can epoxy or weld it in place, or three you can use a set screw threw it to prevent it from moving as well. Which way is best I hope to find out soon. For bedding this is another experiment to undertake. The 455 likes to be full length bedded but the 452 may not. Trial and error will have to be done in order to see what works and what doesn't. I've researched how others have done it and while I found many pics, I haven't seen the rock hard proof of before and after. I guess I'll find out for myself soon :).

Here is a few 455 stocks I've done.

American synthetic, not a fun stock to do!
