accurate air rifle that is capable of being loaded from a nitrogen tank

I'm considering gettin an air rifle for target shooting. I really like the benjamin discovery and crossman Challenger stock. I would like to be able to with adapters load it with a nitrogen tank. What's out there. Would like to be $ 500 or under. Thanks.

I use a scuba tank to fill mine, 3000 psi of oxegon, sounds like a 22 magnum going off.

several years ago i was really into high end air rifles. i owned lots of guns over the years and out of all of them i ended up keeping a pair of customized Theoben Rapids that are very accurate, one in .22 and one in .25, and a Steyr LG 110 in .22. typically all of them will easily shoot dime sized groups out to 50 yards with very little effort. as far as filling with nitrogen...i don't know of any air rifles that are designed specifically for that. but if you want accuracy your going to want a pre-charged pneumatic type gun.

www.airgunadvice.net is like the 6mmbr.com of the airgun world

here is a picture of typical groups at 50 yards with a .22 rapid

Keep in mind that regular air (that we breath and that is normally used to fill scuba tanks and airgun reservoirs) is 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% Oxygen. Possibly an all-nitrogen fill could affect velocity somehow compared to an ambient air fill. But, if anything, it should be less corrosive to the innards of the gun. I don't know if an all-nitrogen fill might somehow be less-than-ideal for seals etc. But all-nitrogen is WAY better than all-oxygen. Normal air is best, according to Pyramyd Air.

Be careful about pressure -- some nitrogen tanks are filled to 6000 psi.

Please read this article. It has some very important safety tips:

So what? We're talking about nitrogen

So, is nitrogen dangerous?
Will nitrogen hurt your PCP? No, it won't. Nitrogen is an inert gas that doesn't react with most things. Oxygen, on the other hand, supports combustion, and the oxygen that both medical personnel and welders have access to has been known to blow up airguns!

What this has to do with nitrogen is this. Simply this, people don't pay attention! Nitrogen can come in tanks compressed to 6,000 psi instead of 3,000 psi. I once met a guy who thought the way to fill a PCP was to connect the hose to the gun and open the valve as fast as he could. The gun filled right up in a couple of seconds, though it did get hot. If you don't understand why, please re-take your high school science class where they explained about the heat generated by compression.

Now, you take a paintball player who has access to nitrogen in 6,000 psi tanks and the same attitude as the guy I just described, and you'll have large pieces left to bury. But, take a medical technician with the same attitude and access to pure oxygen and the pieces will be both smaller and probably toasted.

Oxygen in contact with any trace oil will result in an explosion or fire. All O2 regulators and equipment have this warning.

If you want accuracy, shy away from the Discovery. The Maurader is a way better rifle, plus it is shrouded to help ease that nasty pop. The Disco I have shoots inch at 25 yards. The M-rod will shoot that at 55 yards. The Gamo PCP and the lower end of the BSA's would be a super choice. I shoot cheap Crosmans in the 2 I have and shot .25 inch at 50 yards.

I also say check out the yellow forum for your airgun info. Most PCP's charge at 3000 psi, but the crosman built guns can be tuned to take a lower fill. If you want to spend some real money on a really nice rig, and see what kinda magic can happen with a lower PSI fill, call Tim McMurray at Mac1 airguns. He builds an airgun that is just wicked, and it fills at like something like 1000psi or so. The Mac1 FT has to be the best american built airgun to date, and yes it will give the european ag's a run for their money.

Tim is a super guy to deal with. I have a benji hb22 pistol set up by him. He will also tune up new guns, so you get exactly what you want out of it.

I have a airarms 200t its made by cz very accurate little more than 500.00 and has a 11mil rail for scope and adjustable match trigger and comes with apeture sights as for nitrogen do some homework
