Accuracy of Ruger Precision Rimfire

I observed my first RF NRL match today, and was talking w/ 2 shooters who were using totally stock Rugers. They both stated emphatically, their rifles would consistently, routinely, time after time, shoot sub MOA at 100yds.

My question for those who use and have used the Ruger is: Has anyone reading this, had this experience, w/ the Ruger RPR??

I've had my Ruger Precision Rim Fire for over 4 years now and early on spoke with many others who also had this model while trying to work out various issues with its build. I nor any of these people had that experience. I suppose it's "possible", but very skeptical that they can "consistently, routinely, time after time, shoot sub MOA at 100yds." It's not easy to do with the best of all competition 22 LR rifles. If one get a factory Ruger barrel that can do that, that's like winning the Latto since getting a really good factory barrel is nothing but luck.

I feel I got somewhat lucky as my RPRF barrel did pretty well (once I fixed issues with the receiver and the feeding). Of course, a lot also depends on the quality and consistency of the notoriously inconsistent rimfire cartridges. I did eventually swapped out the factory barrel for a match barrel and got some improvement, but not consistent sub MOA at 100 yds. and I've got a Weaver T-36 scope mounted. Well, I'm also NOT a particularly great marksman either. I do enjoy shooting my RPRF and have it set up pretty much like my centerfire RPR's to use it as practice. Mine shoots way better than most do in it's price range, but not like those 2 shooters say.

If you're contemplating purchasing a RPRF, keep you expectations low. You can depend on getting just what you pay for.

To give you some ideas, here's what a high end gun can do:

I had Ruger Precision. 22 and found it to be about 1.5 MOA *average with Eley Match and old SK .The 17 hmr version was MOA a good portion of the time.
the platform is good and the magazines quite possibly the best available in a .22 repeater imho.My gunsmith used to set back 10/22 barrels and put a match chamber and it sometimes shrunk groups 50%.(this was 20 plus years ago before the availability of bolt on match stuff for the 10/22) my feeling is the RPRF .22 would react similar with a better chamber.

their rifles would consistently, routinely, time after time, shoot sub MOA at 100yds.
If they followed this statement with: "if I do my part"; then forget everything they ever said :)

RPR22 can be good, but it's a crap shoot like others have said. If you do get one, just leave it as it is and don't invest anything into it, you'll never get that money back.
