Accuracy king of the small cals?

How do you match burn rate and case capacity? I do look for around 100 % case capacity but how do you know a burn rate and capacity are matched up? Thanks just trying to see another way to pick out powders.
I use the most fill listed in load data - for the bullet I want to use- then look at a burn rate chart and go up list 2-3 powders to try- some use the gorden reloading tool, others use quick load, etc….

Wouldn’t that mean you’re always using a compressed load? I’ve not had good luck with compressed loads in 6bra

Not always fill. Sometimes a powder shoots really well but you have to hammer the brass to get the right node. A little more capacity will allow you to hit the same node with the same powder at a few ksi less pressure and then your brass will last.

Goes the other way too. The best node with a 90SMK in my 22BR was about 1gn and 100fps below max pressure. I spun up a 22 PPC that hits the same node just under max pressure. The PPC shoots arguably better, uses 2gns less Varget doing it, and the pressure is just right: high for consistency but just low enough that the brass holds up forever.

My old Witchita 375 actioned .22 Waldog will always hold a special place in my heart. The many groups shot in the 1's with that rifle in 100 yard BR competition still amazes me to this day.
25 gr N133, 52 Berger, and Fed 205 seated .015 into the rifling. 3500 fps and bugholes. If your not in the low 1's with this combination, it's a driver problem. Good times and some great friends to compete with. Doesn't get any better.

Boy that would SAKO 22PPC is a shooter. Is it the single shot heavy barrel version?
Did you have to do anything to it, bed it re crown it ?

Bone stock, factory single shot heavy barrel. Thats my "bragging" group but this rifle is a shooter. I mostly shoot Sierra 50gr Blitz for varminting but the coyote in the pic actually fell to a 52gr SMK.

Curious if there is a general consensus on which small/varmint cartridge is known for easy accuracy. I know the 6ppc is notorious, as well as BR/Dasher family for bench rest. In the 20-22 caliber range what would you build for an absolute eyeball puncher? 222rem had a good run, Vartarg seems pretty popular here, 22ppc?
Lots of variables I know but, look forward to hearing opinions. I don’t have much experience in this realm yet.
222 and thats all you need to hear. Tommy Mc

Curious why the 222 is or would be more accurate than a 223? The longer neck?
More efficient, less recoil
I think the main reason the PPC's are favored over the BR family even though the BR's will make the PPC's shake in their boots with the right person driving.
Although at one time I did have this factory Rem 700 / .223 that I enjoyed regularly center punching the primer on 12 ga Shotgun shells for fun just to watch them explode and give a perfect indicator of a 1/8MOA hit
223 CAN be very accurate
222 just seems to do it with any rifle no matter who the make or model is
and does not need to be a custom

Stock 17 Hornet here, CZ 527,I had Lilja look at this group and asked him if he could improve on it, he said no, you've a good shooter there. Honest company.Hornady Superformance 20 grain. gets the job done.100 yards benched.

He may be able to improve on it if he experimented with 10 different barrels
to try and find a hummer
I think thats what he is saying
It shoots great already and not worth the time effort and money it WOULD take to try and improve a .17 above that.

More load development is about the only thing that may improve it in my opinion.

The rifle has never failed to do what I ask of it,I doubt of one could do much better to make a difference in the field. The diminutive 17 is more deadly than it gets credit for as it drops big game in tracks with proper shot execution.I know as I used it on our deer control permits , one shot one kill DRT in tracks.

I agree there, the hydrostatic shock a 17 Rem generates is......phenomenal.
and would not hesitate to take deer with it out to 100 yds.
(Shoot a cantelope with it at 100 yds, it'll blow your mind compared to say a .243)
--------------
Similarly "Ackley" used the 220 Swift to cull wild Donkey(Burro) herds out to 400 yds for the same reason
Everyone made fun of him calling his round puny for the task
Until they witnessed the same thing...a violent shake then the animal would just fall over.

We get a permit every year from ODNR, to kill 235 deer a year in the city I work in as cop.We kill our Quota within a couple months city residences get first bids on the deer ,none go to waste only swat team, and former get to shoot in this culling process. I dropped at least a dozen with the hornet, pictures to prove, all drt in tracks, the guys shooting 308,and 556 couldn't believe it,we all shoot suppressed.I'm shooting a hornet, not 17Rem.
