accuracy gone for some reason?

ok..Two weeks ago I won the 300 yard match with a perfect 200 score..Used 69 gr smk
and cfe223 powder, lapua brass and cci 400 srp...

Anyway,I wanted to try some 75 gr A Max in this rifle (9 twist)....used PMC once fired brass
and cci 400 srp..powder was H 4895 22.5 GRAIN..seated touching the lands..just touching..

tried a couple shots at 300 yards..no hits...this is a large target..so i tried a couple at 50 yards..
terrible..5 in maybe 6 inch..so for the hellof it 200 yards...again huge target...not one freaking
hit...now i had cleaned this barrel with mpro cleaner..So whats your thoughts..

scope is weaver T36...barrel is bull barrel mc gowin...3456 rounds..i just cant beleive a barrel would
go to hell all at once..these 75 a max shot fairly well at 300 with reloader 15 powder..But you know
a reloader has to expermint....john in pa :-\

I have the same thing happen with 75gr JLKs. Try the 69s again to see. I'm interested to see if anyone has a new suggestion.

I have used the 75BTHP in a 9 twist and they work. I have never shot the Amax but from everything I have read here and elsewhere 9 twist isn't fast enough for that long a bullet, especially @ 223 velocity.

What bullet seater do you use, how well does it fit the ogive of the amax?

Not enough twist. I have an 8 twist .22BR that drives tacks with the 75 A-max. ;D

+1 Hornady currently recommends a 1 in 8" twist for the 75 A-Max. They shoot well in my 1 in 8" twist 22-204. If I remember correctly, an older box indicated a 1 in 9", but latest purchases indicate 1 in 8" twist.

BUT----As my above post stated the 75 A MAX DID shoot pretty decent with reloader 15 powder..

if i were to guess the H 4895 was the problem...tomorrow i will try the 69 gr SMK which i won the
match with..This should tell me if it is the rifle or powder, scope or whatever...I will need to get
it sighted in again first..If possible I will report back on my findings... john in pa

well, heres my report back in case anyone cares....The H4895 WAS the problem..
Loaded a few using the reloader 15 again, and all is well..The accuracy is back..
At 300 yards had a decent group of 10 in approx. 2 inches..Pretty good i have
to say for a bullet that should'nt work in a 9 twist. Now I assumed that the
4895 would have worked,but it doesn;t...lesson learned...john
