Accuracy from Hornady 75 Gr A-max------Anyone like this bullet?

I've always liked the A-Max line of bullets and find it to be great in my .308 at LR.

What of the 75 gr A-Max in .223 bolt action?

Anyone use it? Experiences? Best powder with this bullet (in your experience)?

Just curious.

The 75gr. A Max is my bullet of choice in my 22BR. Shilen DGA rifle with a 28"
varmint weight Hart barrel, 9 twist. Combustibles are Rem 7 1/2 and 29.5 grs. of Varget. It's hell on Prairie Dogs between 400 and 800 yards. The bullet holds it's own with the 6mm crowd when we're plinking at steel targets at 800yds at the Dasher Dome. Get some and enjoy them. Good price right now at Mid South Shooters Supply, 600 count boxes. John Kruzan

from what I saw the old Shilen spits the 75 BTHP pretty well also,,

My favorite varmint bullet. The only heavy 22 cal bullet I've used that expands well on small critters at long range, though I haven't tried them all.

I just started shooting the 75 grain Amax from my .223. It has a 23" 8 twist Bartlein barrel. I have a .064" free bore and the COAL at jam is 2.495". My load is 24.5 grains of Varget .010" off jam. I only shot 50 rounds with this load, but it shot 5 shot groups at 100 yards in the 2's. I'm gonna try it out at 500 yards this weekend.

I use the 80's in my savage - it likes 22gr varget I was hoping it would like 24ish
after finding the sweet spot I cant find any more 80's
right any one know where to find 80gr Amax's ? PV don't even list them anymore

I run the 75gr amax in a 22/243 at about 3400fps and have great results. One of my favorite guns. Destroys coyotes and drops whitetail with one shot.

Should be nice. I ran my up to 3550fps but found 3400-3450 to have the best accuracy. I've should some high .3xx groups at a 100 with little load work. I used aa3100 for a long time but I'm out now. Haven't had time to find a real good load since. I'd suggest starting with good lapua brass. I have had brass problems when cranking on it. Its very easy to over pressure. I would recommend that combo to any one. I'm sure yours will be a killer

How's barrel life at these speeds?

Honestly I Only have 400-500 rounds down it. It still shoots like knew. I had it built by McWhorter about 12 years ago. I dont keep track of rounds down the tube on that gun since its a grab it and go gun. I dont shoot it from the bench other than load development. I have guns for that. A box or two of shells is about all it sees a year.

What kind of velocity are you guys getting out of your 223 or 223AIs? I always intended on switching to a fast twist swift when the current 1-14 barrel is shot out, but the efficiency of the little 223 has me interested...
