Cliffy, while I am not trying to single you out or bust your balls in any way, what is your issue with using a proven, reliable and super effective round (.243 winchester) on what it performs best on, VARMINTS? It seems as though you feel the need to use the least effective round based on whatever game you are looking to take.
Don't get me wrong, I have a super potent pellet rifle, and honestly probably superior to your RWS, though I don't feel it has any place whatsoever for use on prairie dogs. They are animals usually scattered about in large prairies, sometimes several hundred yards away. That is PRIME real estate for the .243 to simply dominate, yet you are supporting the use of a pellet rifle that will have an effective range of what, 50 yards? (and that is pushing it) That is completely nonsensical. I can see taking a few close shots while setting up, but other than that the lack of power makes it more of a problem than anything, and it seems as though clean kills would be an issue in all but the most ideal of conditions.
And that is coming from someone who owns a completely tuned custom Gamo Shadow that clocks a 9grain pellet at 1080fps. And I had to slow it down to keep it subsonic. I am sorry, but it's far from ideal for anything but punching paper or residential areas.
One last thing, ONE STATE has outlawed lead bullets. Other than that, I have heard nothing of them being restricted anywhere else in the US. I am on several forums that span most of the US as far as contributing audience, and nobody but you has spoken of it. The topic of "what if" has been raised, but nobody seems to share your "lead at it's end" attitude.
You have written several pieces in the forum that I have found interesting, but some of it is just off base. I am not saying I don't want to see you post, as differing ideas make for great conversation, I just want to try to understand your views a bit more.
