I used those too, until I set something sharp on it when it was thawed out. I needed something a little more cut proof.Yep. I like those gel filled ice packs best. But same principle.

I just wrap it in a thin rag. That protects it and also keeps things dry. Even a paper towel. I guess it could still get cut but a lot less likely.I used those too, until I set something sharp on it when it was thawed out. I needed something a little more cut proof.
i wasn't smart enough to think of that.I just wrap it in a thin rag. That protects it and also keeps things dry. Even a paper towel. I guess it could still get cut but a lot less likely.
I wonder by what percentage jamming the bullet negates neck tension variation too. Most SR BR shooters are jamming by some amount.I think brass prep methods can change the affect of neck thickness variation. If you size with a FL or bushing die the variance will change neck tension. If you follow up with a mandrel after necking down it will reduce the neck tension variation. 0.003 is very minor in my view - less than 3% for most brass.
Well, you can. There's a reasonably wide area between touch and sticking a bullet. I do it on most of mine but I'll admit that my reply was not about hunting rifles too. Yet another reason to work from "jam" and then backward from that point. You can start at the point where a bullet sticks and work backward from there. I say that mostly because most of my best loads over the years have been between .010 in and .010 out of the lands. Really, pretty much all of them have fallen within that range. Jam doesn't necessarily mean ya dump powder if you try to eject a loaded round...by a long way actually.you don't jam bullets in a hunting rifle, you just dont.
I am one that's been around for a while and I can agree to a pont...but no, in no world does jam equate to jump. It used to be that what people called "jam" was the bullet seated at the point where the given neck tension would not allow it to be further "jammed." I now refer to that as "full jam"..fwiw. Facts haven't changed but internet terminology has. Nowadays, the majority of people seem fixated on finding a very precise "touch point." By that definition, anything forward of touch, is jam. But ya can't have touch and jump at the same time, by any method that I'm aware of..and it just wouldn't and doesn't make any sense to say otherwise. If it's touching, it's touching. If it's longer than that, it's jammed by that amout and if it ain't touching, it's jumping.{ Jam doesn't necessarily mean ya dump powder if you try to eject a loaded round...by a long way actually.}
Then its not jammed! its .010 off of the lands.
You should stop now. Myself and others on this site are national champion shooters and world record holders who carry ammo to the match. We're happy to help but not so happy to be told what vibration is. I do hope ya hang around though.yep and in a hunting rifle you don't even want it touching. or kissing rifling. another thing ammo in an ammo box does funny things when it's in back seat or wherever. its called vibration. Vibration makes Nuts/ bolts come loose it will also cause a bullet to settle into a case deeper or out farther depending how you put ammo in ammo box.
I assume you mean both mine and yours. Good luck to you sir...or ma'am. I'm honestly not sure. But I've been kind and considerate. And yes, on the subjects we have conversed, my mind is set. Please bring up something that makes me consider and appreciate your thoughts more vs telling me what I don't know.Mind set.
You were a hell of a lot more patient than I would have been. Good on you.I assume you mean both mine and yours. Good luck to you sir...or ma'am. I'm honestly not sure. Now he's pm'ing me stuff to tell me how he's not new to this. I truly have been nice and tried to be helpful with this guy. I'll stop at that for now but just read his posts to date. I do hope he'll stick around but have tried to politely make it clear that his approach to date might not serve him well. He just brought up the late Stan Ware. I'll stop there.You were a hell of a lot more patient than I would have been. Good on you.
