A Springer pellet gun at 100yds/pic

I decided to go shoot my Diana 54 Springer in .22 at 50yds with lubed pellets. I lube my .177s but this was the first try with .22. I shot 7 groups at 50 yards. All between 3/4 and 1 inch. No super under .5 but very consistent. I had a target in the car from a 400 yard deer match we have. You will see 5 little masking tape patches. They are my 5 shots at 400 yards. A bit mediocre. I decided to try 5 shots with the Springer at 100 yards. I had shot 100 once before so zI had a sight setting. Actually I knew the correct had Mark low in the scope to use zeroed at 50. First shot hit high in the heart about a pellet from where I held. So know I am thinking it would be cool to get 5 in the heart. I held about a half inch lower for the next 4. That first shot hit s tape patch at the top and just pushed it back through the hole. I put a little x on the tape. It's the top hole. Four cents a shot, no reloading , almost no cleaning. Try it, you might like it.20230829_182503.jpg20230416_093348.jpg

See you at the next 100 yard UBR !! You can have a showdown
with Zach and his CZ rimfire.....LOL With all that practice ammo
you donated, He's going to get some trigger time in......LOL

What grain weight are those .22 pellets ??

15.89, I'm sort them by weight, 15.80 to 16.20 then have plus and minuses in separate groups. I lube them with a paraffin based oil made to lube chains. It dries on them in about 2 hours. I shoot them dry. Seems to cut done on unexplained shots. Vel 760. You can usually watch it going. Pretty cool.

Nice......I could never even get my PCP 177 to shoot at 50.
I gave up after buying so many different tins of pellets.

That is outstanding shooting! Extremely hard to fathom that is from a springer but then again I see how much time and effort you put into the hobby, so if anyone can do it, it should be you. I haven't tried it yet but I wondered about lubing pellets with the spray can Hornady One Shot stuff. Figured it would leave a dry film. Anyone try it yet?

It’s been some years since I put a springer on paper at 100y. Iirc I did around a 4” group with 1” vertical with my Pro Elite .22. I wish I still had that gun.

Model 54 has some advantages- primarily weight and the recoilless action. I should check in on my friend with his 54.

I know what to get you for Christmas.....LOL We have a few cans
of Belray chain wax on the shelf. Even a syn-blend they claimed
was better for the XC racing we were doing. Zach just did his
chain on the Honda XR70. Someone once told me that Lanolin
was used by some on the pellets. Maybe a test with an Alcohol /
Lanolin mix is in order ??

Most of the higher end pellets are treated with a coating to eliminate or reduce the oxidation of the lead. I had a tin of cheap Daisy pellets that were covered with white powdery oxidation.

Jeff, are you washing your pellets to remove this coating before lubing them? I’ve seen articles about washing the pellets but not any mention of relubing.

I’ll be following with interest concerning your procedure and results.

I shoot Air Arm pellets which come very clean. I see no reason to wash them. This was my first attempt lubing .22 pellets. Some more shooting both ways will sort it out.

T9 bike chain oil is the brand. Seems the pellets gain some consistency with it. I am shell figuring out how this rifle wants to be held. But I never dreamed a spring gun could shoot the way they do. I know I say this all the time but no loading and 3 or 4 patches every couple hundred pellets for cleaning, I like it.

From what I read 4in at 100 yds seem to be the gold standard for springers so under 2 seems like a good start. If I had used the same aiming point it would have 1.5. I picked up some little broken pieces of clay pigeons and set up. Knocking them into piece was fun.

We are all lubing with some different light oil. We all feel it helps. None of us use the same thing. Maybe it doesn't matter, could be in our heads. But we're all sold. Try it, let us know.

I shot tonight even though it was pretty windy. After a bit it pretty much was a headwind twitching a bit lt or rt. I had some Airgun steel silhouette targets I had never tried. I set the chicken, pig and turkey at 50 yards. Once I figured how much the headwind was pushing me down, about a fat inch, they took a beating. Same with the ram at a 100. Missed first couple shots then he was toast. I was shooting culled pellets tonight, the bad ones. Center of the chicken was the size of a penny. I had seven pellets left decided to try a group at 50. First 3 pretty much in the same hole, still a head wind. Wind picked up I shot to see where it would go. It went an inch straight down. 3 left as the wind got off gale force, they all hit the first hole. So I had a 1.5 inch group but 6 in a hole a nickle covers up. The gun works. One thing I have found out , the 54 works. I carry a torque wrench and retorque every 15 to 20 shots. This gun has serious vibration. Nope, no scope problems.
