A short rant about best cartridges

They say..... " It's the Indian, not the arrow". That said, go with a 7mm, 6.5x.284, or a 6 Dasher if the conditions are not wild. Good luck.

This is an example of what I think is a good answer. I shoot 100/200 benchrest (well...shoot is a little stronger term than I should have used :) ). Tony Boyer is considered by many to be the best around at this time.
Have Tony build two identicle rifles, have him set them up, work up loads and get them totally ready for a match. Have him set them both on a table. You get your choice of which rifle that you will shoot. Tony will prepare the ammo for both, just as if he were shooting both. Enter a match with him and shoot from the bench next to him.
Tell me who wins the match!
There are some that will shoot with him under these circumstances some of the time.

Got the money set aside for a full in FOpen rig and scope...right now my focus is on my FTR rig and learning windskills and getting over old bad habbits! When you post morning scores in the lower 190's and they drop during the day when conditions change, then you have not mastered your current discipline.

To me that chase is what it is about. I am going to get the FOpen rig ready, but sticking with FTR untill I feel I have reached the best accuracy and consistency possible with my current setup.

I have a 223 and a 308 FTR currently with a Barnard based FOpen in the plans

How true the words of hammer47, a few years ago I was shooting at 1000yds with a friend who had just bought a german DSR1 308 rifle, after about 20 rounds he said "I would have expected better from a £10.000.00 rifle", I replied "what a pity the wind here at bisley does not respect how much your rifle cost, I was using a 35 year old Parker Hale rifle based on a mauser 98 action, I used to do better with that rifle than the top of the range rifles I use now, But then I was a little younger.

Shame on u guys for not mentioning the old 30-06. Back in the day guys around here had one gun if lucky and it was their deer, bear, and woodchuck gun. ;D

That guy that set the 600 yrd record, which one? Tied one with a .284 at lodi last year 150-13X and set a new one with 200-19X with a 6brx. Only constant is shooter and brux barrels, also same Kelby Panda action. Good luck, Bob

It takes skill to win. It takes money to have skill.

Nobody is going to win with worn out equipment or without having practiced.

Mike, I think you know the answer, two calibers come to mind. Heavy gun i would use yours and light gun i would use mine.....LOL...jim
