Was such a nice day I went to the range to try out some loads in two of my customized rifles, the .222 Magnum Ackley Improved and .308. Both are augmented with 26 inch Shilen barrels, the former based on the Remington 722 platform while the .308 was a Mossberg action bedded in a fine wood stock, Timney trigger, and heavy sporter barrel. My thanks to Butch Lambert for taking that Mossberg action and turning it into a shooter!!
Love working up fine loads on the bench in beautiful weather!

I call it the "Moss Turd".

Bill, I won't comment on the Savage as I've heard they shoot well. If you knew what went into this "Moss Turd" you would understand my thoughts.

There may be a Mossberg 22 around here but that is it. I do like the idea of 223 and 308 rifles using a military style magazine in their bolt action rifles. But understand the execution may be lacking.

Other than being cost effective "maybe", why would you sandwich the plastic magazine housing between the receiver and the cheap soft wood stock? It was a real pain in the AZZ to do a decent bedding job. The factory sight base screws on the front ring were locked into the barrel tenon!
There is more, but with one finger typing, I will go no further.

Never had one, but I do like the idea of the 722 in 222 Mag. AI!

I've never held one in my hands , know nothing about them except what I saw on the computer. Just yanking your chain. I was a Remington guy till they went under. I am a little disappointed with them lately, SIL messed up the extractor or the ejector on my daughters 870. Remarms will sell no parts as they are trying to make all the completed guns they can. If I was to need to buy a rifle right now it would be a Tikka, Howa, or a CZ.

At one point, I believer, about 30 yrs ago Mossberg use to have a decent rifle. It was a Model 1500 made by Howa. They were good.

At the range I worked at for 12 years or so, I never saw a Mossberg rifle be able to place 5 rounds on a pie plate size target at 100 yards with factory ammo. Not a single time. And that was over bags from a bench.

Friend of mine had a mossberg rifle it was a 6moa at 100yds sent it back they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it....
