A new take on Picatinny Scope Checkers

Creative.

Just hope there's enough clearance under the main scope for that mount to fit in.

For it to fit you need about .380" from top of rail to bottom of scope. For it to fit without having to remove your scope, you need about .450". For it to fit without having to remove clamps from checker, you need about .70". Most people run high rings on benchrest rigs, so it will fit most in the target market.

Unfortunately the plans to test this weekend at Deep Creek didn't work out. UPS dropped the ball. Despite spending $62 on "Next Day Air" on Wednesday, Alex won't get it until Monday. "Flight Delays". I will keep you posted.

@ Alex Wheeler Any more on this yet. Barry.

I have it, have not tested it. I mean its a simple clamping fixture. I cant see how it would not perform. I dont get the testing conditions I need in Dillon. I will probably send it to @tom with my fixed scope and he can test his known good scopes with it.

I had an opportunity to test the checker this morning with three different scopes. It worked out perfectly, as is. I have a few minor suggestions for Travis, but I didn't have any concerns about the quality or accuracy of the mount.

I'll be posting my findings on the testing in another thread and there'll be some pictures to go with it.

Quick update on the project... @Jay Christopherson was generous enough to test it and gave a good review that can be found here: http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/scope-testing-results-2017-07-15.3930602/ The tester performed well, but there's some room for refinement.

We missed the timely opportunity to test at Deep Creek a few weeks ago because of UPS. The MT boys will get to it when they can.

In the meantime, I am incorporating some of Jay's suggestions into the Rev1 model. I should have the revised bits made within about 7 days from now. I'll ship them out to the testers upon completion. @Alex Wheeler - you guys may want to wait for the revised pieces before testing it.

If deemed ready for prime time, I'll figure price and availability an gauge interest.

Thanks for you patience.

OK, Rev 1 bits are finished. I incorporated some suggestions from @Jay Christopherson as well as some things for my own peace of mind. Note: The original didn't budge with a golden Eagle and a 7mm (284 Win, I believe). I just wanted to beef it up!

  • Lower profile in final installed position - .375" from top of rail to top of arm.
  • Lower profile with clamps on - you don't have to remove the clamps unless you have less than about .550" under the scope.
  • Steel clamps, cold blued - no washers
  • Two bolts per clamp, spanning three lugs on the rail
  • Stainless bolts
  • 3-5/16" rail-to-rail center distance (up from 3-1/4"). Helpful when your main scope has a side focus. Just a little more room.
  • Cross bolts .01" higher to avoid contact with valley of rail
  • Arms threaded deeper for more thread engagement (3/8" now on a #10-32 = about 2X diameter)
I'm mailing these out to Jay & @Alex Wheeler tomorrow. Hopefully they'll get them before the weekend, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm working on a SolidWorks model now that will show pertinent dimensions. Will post once complete.

Thanks for your patience. We're getting there.

Here's the model of the checker showing how it's constructed and critical dimensions (attached pdf). I'll need to make about 32pcs in the initial production run. We'd put them in our store at a price point of about $165. I'd need about 3 weeks from launch date to start filling orders. I'm going to wait for @Jay Christopherson & @Alex Wheeler to get back with me on the current design. It will be at the Deep Creek championship match on 8/12. Several of you can check it out there.

I've gotten positive feedback from the testers. We will be taking pre-orders soon for $150. After 9/1/17, price will be $170. Estimated ship date is starting 9/7/17.

I'll scour my inbox and these threads once the listing is live to make sure those who have expressed interest can get in on the pre-order. I'll post the link where to buy them on this thread, as well.

Thanks to all that have helped and shown interest! And thanks for your patience. It won't be much longer.
