A New Scope Under $2000

I want to stay under the $2,000 production class rules for a scope but want all the bells and whistles. I have several NF models and a Razor HD. I have stared at Athlon BTR 4.5-29×56 APLR5, Bushnell XRS II Elite Tac 4.5-30x50, or Burris XTR III 5.5-30×56mm. Not to add to the pile which one would be the best choice?

I had a Athlon Argos and I was not that impressed. The higher the power the darker it got. Just recently I got the new Vortex Strike Eagle 5x25x56 and that scope is more clear than my Viper PST Gen 2 and my HSLR . For a cheaper scope I still can't believe the quality.

I have a NF SHV, it's an early model. To my eyes it's just a barely discernible step below their ATACR line. I have zero complaints on it and the price is still well below the $2k threshold.

Tract has a new 4.5-30x56 set up for competition. A steal for what you get, I am looking to move a lower powered Tract hunting scope to step up. I have 4 Tract products and have been completely impressed with the tracking and optical quality. As good if not better than anything in it's price range, by far.

Has anyone on here run the Trijicon 5-50x? Curious about how "friendly" the eye relief is, parallex is to dial in, and of course, clarity in upper magnification.

I haven't found anything to put up the options to make a decision for me. I purchased a Athlon Cronus BTR 4.5-29X56 APLR5. I'm a life long NF fan so it has lots to prove...

I have been eyeing the tenmile 5x50 at euro optics getting ready to pull the trigger on it, is the moa reticle fine enough to corner in a bullet hole at 100 I'm sure it is on higher power guess I answered my own question. but need some sound advice

If you don't mind me asking, what is production class, and what discipline is it shot in??
What I've seen is a class based on keeping the cost limit on rifle and glass. Under 2K for each. Like some classes have weight and glass power limits. Just keeping my options open.

I run the Trijicon 5-50. Bought it after some bad luck with a Golden Eagle. The parallex is the best I have ever used. It is super easy to get a stable picture from it. I shoot at 40x most of the time and I find the eye-box to be easy to find, but no two people have the same eyesight. It is very usable at 50x, unlike the GE. To me the overall quality of the scope is just fantastic. It really is a big step up over the GE.

If there are downsides to it they are: It is heavy. Kind of built like a tank. If you are watching weight to make class, it's not the scope for you. Second, the cross hairs are a bit thicker than the GE. My old eyes like it a lot better, but if you like a real fine hair, you might not. Keep in mind I bought the mil version because I wanted the floating dot.

I would call the GE an upper-mid class scope, and the Trijicon an alpha class scope. Last time I looked Midway had them for $1701.00 with free shipping. I consider it a steal at that price.

Great info friend.
Thanks

I have the Delta (Trijicon) and the Bushnell XRS II.

If clarity is more important, get the XRS. The glass is very good. Close to but not quite S&B or NF Comp 15-55 good, but better than most.

If magnification over 30x is more important, get the Delta/Trijicon. Solid scope. Good glass.

Neither will disappoint.

I've been shooting behind Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56 scopes for several years - started out with the pre-BTR version, which had a thicker reticle than the newer BTR. For use on tiny targets that we sometimes see in 22RF precision matches, the thinner BTR reticle is a slight improvement over the older per-BTR. I've got one of the new Cronus scopes with the floating dot reticle (APRS1), but haven't mounted it on a rifle yet. Out of four pre-BTRs & two BTRs, I've yet to have an issue with any of them. They track great, glass is pretty darned good - I'm happy with mine.

Another vote for Tract. I have one of the new 4.5-30x56 arriving today. Will be comparing to my Kahles 6x24's. If it is like the several other Tract scopes I have recently bought it is a hell of a deal for the price.

If Meopta has the feature set you are looking for.............You are doing yourself a dis-service to not take a look at their stuff. For the money (at any price really)............their optical image quality is stunning. Image quality is as good as my Tract Toric, Nightforces or any other scopes I own. Quite a bit better than my Vortex PST GenII 5-25x50.
I just purchased their Meostar R2, 2.5-15x56 (non-PA version for hunting) and can't wait to get it. I'll post a full comment review when it gets here.

While Meopta has a somewhat different and sometimes strange view (IMHO) on feature sets for the American market use you CANNOT argue against their optical image quality.
I'm also considering their new 5-30x56 FFP Optika 6 to replace the above Vortex for a PRS gun. I'm pretty disappointed in the Vortex's optical quality and eye box area above 20x. From the Meoptas I've viewed.........I'm betting this Meopta will be noticebly better and it's about $300 less than the Vortex. I'm sure the new Tract Toric PRS will be a great scope (just like my 4-20x50) and it does look killer.......... but it's twice the price of the Meopta. From what I've researched and seen................If you're OK with the price............ my choice would be the Tract.

If you can handle the price, my choice would be the new Tract PRS scope. Should be awesome for the money.
