A low cost 6BR

http://www.accurateshooter.com/guns-of-week/poormanshammer/

Savage Action-410$; Pre-fit pac nor barrel-435$; Stock-200$; Fit stock-200$; Trigger-acutrigger @ no cost, better-150$. WOW. I checked pac nor web, but nothing said about the built to spec reamer editor/Kiff developed for 6BR. Just what I was looking for :)

I got a rem700 @ WM recently for a build. I may have to rethink this project ::) How much would a smith charge to chamber/fit a barrel, maybe $300 (if he had the right reamer on hand)?

I would get a prefitfor the rem700 pac-nor does a barrel nut along with CBI and McGowen and many others. It will cut the cost of the rifle

I must be looking at the wrong places. All I can find is short-chambered barrels which I would have to buy a reamer and finish myself (or a gunsmith). The pre-fits are chambered with whatever reamer they have on hand, not what I want. Pac Nor doesn't show any fully chambered barrels, just short chambered. The other barrel makers as well. The unique thing about the article is that Pac Nor chambered and fit a barrel to his Savage action, with a "proper" reamer. They do show .262"nd chambers for 6br, but no .272"nd.

Do you have a link for any barrel makers that advertises fully chambered barrels, such as mentioned in the article? Rem or Savage? I must be missing something???

McGowen is one i look at CBI Barrels, Pac-Nor, Shilen, Benchmark,Lilja is doing prefits now. I honestly feel that MeGowen and CBI barrels are the best at around 300$

Call each of the companies and see what they will do that how i go about your chamber questions.

Thanks a bunch. Short chambered, pre-fit, drop-in. Their reamer, my reamer. Send action? Rem, Savage, Marlin? Barrel nut, no nut, Gunsmith finish, I finish. Seems I need to do a bunch of dialing to get the particulars.

Whoa!

Call them, you will find you can get what you want. I just ordered my 3rd Savage pre-fit. They come complete, ready to screw on.

I would lean towards mcgowen as I have 3 of their barrels along with shilens, criterions and er shaws ,hart, etc.But for the money the mcgowens shoot better than my new shilens. Sooooooo, call jim briggs and if you leave him a message,he will get back to you within 24 hours usually. He has all the tools you need at very fair prices. He is a stand up guy.Another fella is Kevin Rayhill of stockade stocks,he is good to go and a one stop shop except the tools.I have a couple of his stocks and he basically makes all his stocks for savages and he will inlet and bed for several others.I love his bolt handles and lift kit which I believe require's a custom washer under the big screw holding the bolt together or removing .135 thou from the screw end.It makes the bolt cycle very smooth. His price's are quite fair.
