A fun thread, what wildcat do YOU wish was mainstream

9mm necked down to .224 for auto loaders, 55gr fmj for range ammo, vmax or gamekings for self defense. Call it the 224 liberty

The .224 BOZ cartridge was developed in the late 1990s with the purpose of defeating body armour.[1] The .224 BOZ began as a 10mm Auto case necked down to .223. Original trials were successful, with this round firing a 50 gr projectile chronographed at over 2,500 ft/s (760 m/s).[2] Worldwide patents were applied for and granted.

In early 1999 .224 BOZ was fired in modified 10mm MP5 and 10mm Glock taking part in a head to head trial at DERA Fort Halstead (UK Defence Testing Establishment) against the NATO CRISAT specification target of layered titanium and Kevlar armour. These trials favourably compared the .224 BOZ against the 5.7 FN P90 and the HK MP7. The .224 BOZ was also shown at the Shot Shows 1999 and 2000, but the concept was solely to be made available for anti-terrorist and special forces use, not civilian use.

In 2010 work restarted on re-working .224 BOZ into a 9x19mm necked case to .223 and with a partnership with a leading ballistics engineer a new range of projectiles have been created. Despite decreasing the cartridge case volume velocities in excess of 2,200 ft/s (670 m/s) have been achieved.

Heck I would be happy if they would just put a faster twist in say 243 and the like. They use oddball 9.something in most Remingtons, 10 in most everything else.
But I think 6ppc 12twist or 6br 8twist would be awesome is you could just go buy a cheapo Remington 700 or savage from the Gun store in one of these.

ps I know some target Rugers offer 243 in 8 twist, I also know the 6ppc can be had in some Sakos and 6br can be had in some Savage target rifles. I just think a cheap sps Remington or savage in one of these would be awesome for 400$ or under from your local Gun store.

In the not too distant past, there were at least 4 custom bullet makers making 25 cal bullets. Now we are down to one making cup and core bullets.

Actually there are four bullet makers now, Berger 115 VLD and Black Jack Bullets 131 gr. VLD actually made by Sierra for BJ, Speer makes 3 variations of the .25 caliber, Hornady makes 8 variations.

Sorry, I guess I stated something wrong. I was talking custom bullets. In the past, Fowler, BIB, JLK, and I think EPS all made custom 25 cal bullets. I am still in the 115 grain and lower range and Berger does make a good bullet and they dropped the 87 grain bullet several years ago.. The only maker I am aware of now is BIB. If you have any leads, please let me know, i am all ears.

My designs revolve around the 426 Westley Richards casing.
Shortening to 2.50", 2.44", 2.00", 1.5" and necking to all popular calibers.

It's actually the Westley Richards .425 Magnum Express which was manufactured for use in the thousands of Mauser M98 rifles found in Africa. The rim was reduced to 0.473 to minimize the changes required to run in the Mauser rifles.

I have no need for mainstream anything. All of my reamers I now purchase to my own spec with and order the resizer reamer at the same time. The only thing that would be nice is brass availability.

300 WSM brass is perpetually in short supply.
7 RSAUM brass availability is hit and miss.
6.5 PRC brass is now mostly available from ADG but is sold out right now.
284 win could be more available as well.

I like the quarter bores, too. How about we add the .257 Roberts AI to the list?

I've always liked the idea of a .25-.308. It'd equal the performance of hand loaded .257 Roberts but would not have the Roberts' limitation in factory rounds of having to be downloaded due to the existence of 100+-year old actions. Might even approach the velocity of a .25-06 with less powder and recoil. With premium bullets it'd be one heckuva deer cartridge.

Don’t forget Lost River Ballistics. They made a 100gr solid copper that was very accurate and deadly on deer.

I would like to see a Johnson spitfire in a bolt gun or a single action like a Ruger #1 or #3 With a reasonable throat of course. One other side note would be beefier .218 brass to better enjoy my lever and single shot .

Yes, excuse me. 425 WR.
And the 0.473" rebated rim size to the 0.544" base size would allow use of standard bolt head diameter.

Ugh yes. Too bad its more intended for maximum speed, and armor piercing aspects. That is pretty neat, Though. I really would be crazy for a heavy .224 out of a 10mil, built for accuracy out of a semi auto handgun.

True but it's getting old after this point in time (and expensive...).

The .257 Roberts was a mainstay in the shooting world for a couple of decades before it started losing its luster. It was a natural for many conversions of M98 Mausers since the box and follower usually required little to let it work properly. The AI version was exceptional in all aspects.

We also let the .250 Savage and the AI version of that slip away unceremoniously. This is one of the truly most surprising cartridges to ever grace a rifle.

.257 Condor - Dr. Ramon Somavia developed this cartridge using the 7x61 Super Sharp and Hart case. It is an incredible cartridge especially when loaded with the newer 131 gr. BJ bullets.

.257 Banshee made from the 6.5 x 68 case and improved. Best combined with the 131 BJ.

.25 Souper based on the .308 Win. case.

There are tons of variations which never made it to the books or reloading data bases.

And what would you like to see it used for? And call it? Hindsight is 20/20 i wish i went to school for gunsmithing and aerospace tolerance machining.

I saw a picture of .22 pokey (25acp necked down to 22) and it got me thinking about neat wildcats I wish existed. Lets hear your ideas.

I wish .22 pokey was a thing for magazine forward Olympic styled target pistols.

9mm necked down to .224 for auto loaders, 55gr fmj for range ammo, vmax or gamekings for self defense. Call it the 224 liberty

10mm necked down to .224 but using 80-90 gr bullets. Yes it would be quite long for the grip, but probably do able. I would like it for long distance handgun target shooting, in custom 1911s or maybe mag forward target pistols. Not sure about a name, but 22 autoturbo sounds pretty 80s cheesy. (I like 80s cheese)

And finally for my contender pistol, a centerfire 224 caliber that is subsonic. 1050 fps with those 90gr 224 bullets would make a sweet windbucking 200 yard paper puncher.

Rifle cartridges? Im not big into rifle cartridges to be honest, but im curious what ideas y'all have.
I have a 10mm/22 complete setup- both reamers, dies, case forming dies, etc. its a very wicked round
