A&D EJ 123 scale?

Has anyone used or have experiance with the A&D ej 123 reloading scale? I just can't afford the FX120 anytime soon and really could use an upgrade. Is it worth it or should I just suffer on for another 6 months until I can afford to properly upgrade?

If you check Cambridge Environmental from time to time (https://cambridgeenviro.com/products/balances-scales-fx-120i) the price on the Fx120i changes from time to time. When I bought mine I paid $500 with free shipping, but a couple weeks ago they had them for $484. Thats not much more than the EJ123. I see right now it's $745. Don't know why it changes. Also check https://www.autotrickler.com/auto-trickler.html they sometimes have great prices on package deal with the scale and tricklers.

You can get the scale with an auto trickler for the same price as just the scale here: https://ce-products.myshopify.com/products/fx-120i-autotrickler-package

I have owned a EJ 123 for a couple years now and have had zero issues with it.
It is very consistent.
I am thinking about buying another one to keep in the basement for bullet making.

I bought an EJ 123 earlier this year, I have never had more accurate loads in as far the charge weight goes. Just be sure to buy the Dandy Trickler, it is a must have... https://dandyproductsllc.com

Here's some food for thought, in my Dasher, 3 - 10 shot strings showed an average velocity of 2915, 2915 and 2916 fps, the only variation was the primer, CCI-400's SD 3.59; Tula 556M's SD 7.92 and Rem 7 1/2's SD 10.12. A follow up with BR4 primers was under an SD of 4 too.

Chrono was a Magnetospeed. A 1K iron sight match in September loaded with the EJ 123, gave me very low vertical, good waterline, my 9's were just me and the wind.

If you want a scale to use while you save for the big boy you might consider one of the sub $100 scales on Ebay or Amazon. I tested a $20.00 special a couple of months back

Initial tests proved it to be a pretty decent scale but since then it was only used to weigh the occasional bullet and some rimfire rounds.

Last week when doing a velocity curve test I found what looked like a great short range load and wanted to try 15 of them out at 300 to see how they grouped. I decided to see what the bargain basement digital would do in a real world test so I used it to load 15 rounds and timed my loading. Fifteen rounds thrown low using a Johnson Quick Throw then trickled to .001 mg using my fingers and a bowl of powder took about ten minutes with seating.

These new inexpensive scales are pretty darn good. For comparisons sake my modded beam had almost the same average but a bit higher ES with the 3 shot velocity curve test. Weighed on the beam the same charge had a 2732 FPS average and a ES of 39. Just a suggestion, I am "thrifty" to put it mildly.

I just ordered one, I'm using a balance beam and video magnifier now, it will be here tomorrow, I'll post my thoughts of it on the bench.

Please do, I have been thinking on moving from my beam to a electronic myself and have been considering the A&D and the Tree KHR 123. Both seem to be good scales

Does it reflect 1 kernel of powder? I've also had my eye on this scale for a while.

One kernel of Norma 203B weighs .02 grains. Dandy trickler lets you drop them one at a time. So, if you've got 32.46 in the pan, drop 2 kernels, you're at 32.5.

To be clear, I ordered the $20 scale you mentioned, not the ej 123. I will test it against my balance beam which i can resolve individual grains of powder with.

Had the 123 for at least 6 months now. Bought a trickler but now don't use it. I have a RCBS chargemaster and it throws close enough to either take out a couple kernels or add a couple kernels to get the charge right. The only negative I have with the 123 is it is a little slow on changing the reading after dropping a kernel or 2 of powder but you get used to it. If I had to do it all over again I would save my pennies, eat Ramen and get the 120 with the auto trickler. If and I think it's just a matter of when my RCBS chargemaster dies, I'll sell my 123 and get the 120 with autotrickler bundle.

ahh I understand. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it operates. If it was a tad larger and had a AC power supply I might well make it my main scale.

I got one of them scales a while back. First day I used it, it was right on the money. I was surprised. A couple of days ago it was raining and just messing around the loading room. Saw the scale and turned it on. The same small weights and bullets I had weighed before now read different. I turned it off and placed it back on the shelf.

I have a test bullet in the box I have been weighing off and on for over two months now, it has never varied more than .004 mg (2 kernels of Varget) but I am thinking of ordering this scale just to have a power cord and a bit larger working surface

For fun I loaded up 100 rounds of 6.8 for a silhouette match this weekend with the $20 scale just to see how it does. I was surprised by being able to trickle h335 pretty effectively with minimal lag, <1sec, and didnt really experiance any drift. Not going to make it my main scale for sure, but just a test to see if it is a viable scale for weighing powder. All loads weighed to .02 gr accuracy. It seemed to correlate with my balance beam well, also.

Will post results after the match.

I got my Area 419 blinged out FX-120i with Auto Throw and Auto Trickle a couple of weeks ago. Not sure why I waited so long to get one. Oh wait, now I remember, I'm a cheap Bass Turd ;). I'm officially spoiled now. If I had it to do over I think I'd save a little money and get the standard Auto Throw. Don't get me wrong the Area 419 equipment is great but the Pyrex Hopper is pretty heavy, I'm worried it will get bumped or dropped at some time and shatter.
