i bought a mil surp Turkish Mauser because i thought it looked cool. didn't have matching numbers or anything so i was going to maybe sporterize it an look for a numbers matching German Mauser. i have heard some different things about the Turk Mauser's though.
i know that they have a hood type thingy on the action to keep the upper stock piece in place. can this be taken off? ,with a lathe) and i have also heard both, that the Turk Mauser's are large action, small ring. and also that they are large ring. but i see different barrel thread sizes in midwayusa.com for the barrels. witch is it?
i was thinking about keeping it 8x57 Mauser, and hand load. could this handle hotter loads. or.... could it hold up to 338-06 if i re-chambered a new barrel for it?
another question, i have been reading alot on the 338-06, and was wondering if there where any wildcats that use the 8x57 case for the parent case. just wondering.
