Dog Face Soldier? Rock of the Marne to ya.

Kurz....a bit confused here. You re-posted one of my pics (Post #30) without any commentary related to it.
What's up? Recognize something in the pic?

A few more from RVN in 1966...
Friendly reminder at the Swift Boat base in Chu Lai:

And just for fun, our beloved mascot Gator buddy "Pogo":

Now, At the time your camera was the cat's meow. It was introduced in 1966. Great pics!

Butch, thanks buddy. That old Minolta was a treasure at the time. The only downside back then was waiting for the developed film to arrive back at my ship, and wondering how many shots were okay, and how many were bogus. Not the case today with instant confirmation via digital images on our DSLR's we have today. My how times are a changin'.
Wasn't there a guy named Kerry around there somewhere? Thought pretty highly of himself as I recall..........

Are those tuners on the barrels?
If you mean mid barrel, perhaps they are evacuators to keep toxic gasses out of the turret? All of the Main Battle Tanks my Father served in had them.
If you mean the muzzle, likely they are brakes.

I got a royale chewing out when I didn't do a short burst as instructed. But I still have the smile on my face to this day thinking about 60 rounds more or less going down range.

You mean the guy who got a bruise on his elbow when his PCF lurched?
And the guy who cut his finger accidently when under enemy fire?

That was the same Kerry who put himself in for TWO PH's. The Navy doctor in charge at the time said he would have rejected the PH's had he known the facts. It was later revealed that JK wanted the PH's to add to his cred in order to run for office later. The more "fruit salad" the better, right?

Never encountered the guy when I was there, only learned of his exploits much later when the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth came out and exposed the guy when he tried to run for office. Another liberal jerk.

Yours truly at a skinny 20 years old at the Swift Boat base in Cam Rhan Bay (could be Chu Lai....old now, memory fading, and we hit lots of places in SVN):

Oh, and no PH for me.

I'm assuming you're the tall white guy at the center of the pic?

Reminds me of the MACV-SOG guys in RVN training the ARVN's long ago. I hope your 'trainees' did a better job than the ARVN's did back then.
Ha! I took the pic. Romano, a CIA brat and Adrian Jacobs from Brooklyn, New York in the back. Those Honduran dudes were studs. I think they would've smoked the Sandinistas if they tried to cross that line.

The guys in the Honduran Army that patrolled with us seemed to be untrained kids that were there just to be fed

Those dudes were conscripts. The Honduran army would send a couple 2 1/2 ton trucks to the little towns that had a church / town hall. All the males would be rounded up. An officer would make a chalk mark on a door way, and the local males would get marched by. If you were a tall 13yo, you were in. They were “supposed” to be 16yo…

That explains my experience, always wondered what the deal was

The Hondurans in camo / with the black pockets were hard dudes! They would have nothing but mag pouches and a single canteen on the web belt. They rolled with the CIA “contractors” down south. Monitoring their radio traffic was always interesting…

If any of you were injured during TET in 1968 and went to the Long Beech Navel Hospital I might have worked on you. I was injured in Iceland and ended up there after going to Germany first for repairs. When I got to L.B.N.H. in February 1968 there where no empty beds. The place was full of injured Marines. When I got there, there was only a 1st class and a 2nd class corpsman running the orthopedic ward. Because I could walk and was pretty much okay, they asked if I would stay there and help. I don't know how they did it but I said okay and was assigned there and made a CAST TECH and taught how to put casts on injured Marines and any other injured. Never had a uniform and wore green scrubs all day for 8 months. So no one knew I was a Marine. It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done and am really proud to have been able to do it. In Iceland Marine Barracks there were 170 Marines and only three of us had not just come from Viet Nam. They were not happy to be there and I learned a lot from them. I could tell you stories about things that happened at the EM club with those guys but I'm sure you can imagine the picture. Glad you all made it back.
