A bunch of powder in stock.

The only powder I have personally gotten ahold of that was bad was Hodgdon H-380 that was previously opened and was on a shelf with direct sunlight on it. A little one horse gun shop a while ago.
I have several cans of powder that I've had for years that is still good. Probably the oldest I have used was IMR 4227 bought already opened with a bunch of other stuff that we used in a friends Savage muzzeloader a few years ago. I probably bought this 25 years ago and it was old then. But is in an IMR tin can (grey) so really not that old. The main thing with powder is the way its stored. I remember reading (probably in the '70s that they tested Uniuqe that had been stored (UNDERWATER!!) every year and it was still good. I seem to remember the date as 1909 when it was originaly brought out.
Not touting that as gospel, but it has been a while.
That 380 was definitly bad, it was clumpted and smelled BAD! You will know, Gary

I have been shooting my powders from the 1970's. Still in metal cans. Some screw tops like my 296, some of those small square cans with the pop tops..(push down in the middle), Some 4895 and 4064 in the small rectangular cans and some red dot in a massively big red keg. I'm also using the 70's primers I still have. Still going bang, still grouping ok, especially pistol. Some of my 4895 even has some nice rusty dust in the powder. Don't do as I do as they say, but its FIFO at my bench this time around. 40-45 years its time to use it up.

Why do you have too carefully dispose of it ? All you need do is spread/sprinkle it in your lawn or garden for fertilizer.
I thought I was in good shape on pistol powder, primers and bullets. That was before I found several older canisters of pistol powder that was destabilized and had to carefully dispose of it.
Now I am in need of some pistol powder but, due to a good stock of ammo, I can wait it out.

It had. IME, become unstable. There was a "smoke" when I opened a can and a terrible odor.
I did pour it out in the yard.

Store by me posted they had these powders. They don’t ship local pickup only. Reasonable prices.
