MidSouth is showing a new ?? collection pf rifle & pistol powders. They don't have much info on these powders. Their "MATCH" is listed as being "equal" to RL 15, & 2520.
Anyone have any info on this or their other powders ??

These have been out for a year maybe closer to two. For the most part, when you look at their burn rate or comparison chart, they will correspond to the Accurate powder equivalents.

If you run the Lovex numbers thru quickload and compare, same thing, A phone call basically confirmed Lovex/Accurate load data as a starting point before they had much of their own data published.

I have used Auto Pistol/#5, Heavy pistol/#9, and the Blackout/1680. All three needed to be backed off just a little like you would a hotter run of powder.

I saw these come on the market about two years ago. There was a bulletin post about them. They were in larger cans though that did not translate to well to those used to Imperial lbs. Nice to see they are now selling them in 1lb containers. I will have to give one or two of them a try.

Explosia supplied most of the old Accurate Arms grades until Western Powders (the Ramshot people) bought that company out. Western then changed suppliers in very short order afterwards, some of the ball grades coming from P B Clermont in Belgium (which makes most Ramshot powders); some from General Dynamics St Marks Powder Co. in Florida (which makes Winchester and Hodgdon ball grades). I believe the Accurate extruded grades come from General Dynamics Valleyfield, Quebec (ie the IMR manufacturer).

Lovex is the European brand name for Explosia handloading powders. It has a website with loads data and also does a good quality A5 printed handbook, but many of the cartridges Accurate Shooter members are interested in are missing. Some of the equivalences in its burning rate chart are way out too, especially for SO65 which is shown on the same line as H. VarGet - it's a poor substitute for VarGet: slower burning, bulkier, and considerably lower specific energy rating.

SO powders are single-based and DO are double-based.

Rifle grades and the old Accurate name are:

DO60 .......... 5744
DO63 .......... 1680
SO60 .......... 2015
DO73.4 ....... 2230
DO73.5 ....... 2460
DO73.6 ....... 2520
SO62 .......... 4064
SO70 .......... 4350
SO71 .......... 3100

In addition there are new ones or maybe old ones that Accurate Arms didn't use - SO40 a short-grain tubular grade akin to H4198 and maybe suitable for 30BR among others.

SO65 shown as the same burning rate as VarGet but advised as ideal for .30-06, 7X57mm Mauser, 7X64mm and similar.

There is also a range of revolver / pistol powders which used to be AA-5, 9 etc pre Western.

Western Powders tells us Europeans not to use its website loading data for today's Accurate grades with these powders.

I use some of the Lovex extruded rifle powders occasionally. SO62 is a nice 308 Win general purpose number with light to medium bullet weights - it appears to be a good substitute for IMR-4064; SO70 a reasonable alternative to the 4350s from whichever company. The ball powders give very high MVs in some applications, but I found they are dirty and deposit very hard to shift fouling on case-necks.

By chance are you confusing the Lovex powders with Nobel Sports powders? The Nobel Sports offering were, and still are, packed in half-kilo bottles (roughly 1.1 lbs), but they are not manufactured by Lovex, nor are they interchangeable in any way. Graf's carries the Nobel Sports powders.

I've tried the Lovex powders and some have found a permanent place in my powder cabinet. Match Rifle does a fine job for me in .223/5.56 and .20 Practical. Going to have to try S071 and see if it is a true replacement for AA 3100. My .25-'06 loves 3100 and my stock is getting low.

Yes you are correct. I did mix these two up.

Anyone know what the temperature stable characteristics of these powders is?
The Match Rifle and Tactical Rifle powders are temp sensitive - I have noticed velocity variation due to differences in ambient temperature. To what ultimate degree, I'm not sure - it doesn't get really hot in central NY!

I'm not sure about the rest, as I have either not tried them or used them under varying temperature conditions.

My 25-06 loved 3100 also. I have a little left but had to rebarrel and didn't want to work up a load and have the powder be gone, so I started loading with H4831. The new barrel with the H4831 doesn't shot near as good as the old factory barrel and 3100.

I really wish they'd bring it back.

This new powder is it (SO71), I emailed the company, and now its on the Accurate webpage under FAQ. They could not get 3100 cheap enough from the Czechs to make it worthwhile. This is the company that made it for Accurate. I guess they wanted to eliminate the middle man?
