A bet, 50ft using a pistol hitting a quarter

Tell him to pony up for an Anschutz 17P. You can hit a quarter at 100 yds with it. A few years back I posted a target I shot at 100 yds. with five shots covered by a nickel.

I just sold my Anschutz 17p. Got an offer that I couldn't refuse. If it wasn't windy it would shoot well under 1/2"at 100 yards. Nice little 2 stage trigger too. Like to have another one.

I would shoot my 358 Norma mag specialty pistol (my latest toy). And all you need is the ground shooting prone.

With all the great confidence given here, this is a one shot only thing.

I think I'd be fine shooting bottom edge of the coin on a first fowler shot, but I am less confident i'd hit metal if aimed dead center. That first shot of the day would always be out of the group. I'd practice one shot a day for a week or two to get that POI down.

I would take my high standard supermatic citation and take one shot and take his money so to speak.

Agreed. Jonbearman's Supermatic Citation, my model 104 Supermatic Citation ray gun (with or without the factory muzzle brake), basically any High Standard, S&W, Colt, Ruger, Browning, Beretta, etc .22 rimfire target pistol. While admittedly this was the best day of my life in NRA 50ft indoor smallbore pistol competition, I did this (5 in the 10 ring, regulation NRA 50 ft smallbore slow fire pistol target) on the first 5 shots of my ten shot string shooting from the classic one handed target stance required in that game. From a rest, with a little practice to verify first shot from a cold barrel POI, this is taking candy from a baby with any quality .22 rimfire target pistol.

any of the above would do it to find cold bore 1st shot set up a target with a bunch of dots and shoot at ONE DOT A DAY then compare impact of each dot so you will know where to adjust /hold/aim .

Confidence is key. All part of knowing your weapon.

For instance, I know that with my Browning Buckmark Varmint I have to aim a little high at 10 yards, then I'm right on at 25 yards. I have to aim LOW at 50 yards, little low at 75, then I'm back to being dead on again at 100 yards. But that was learned from shooting, (and missing) a TON of rounds in the field at gophers and other critters or just plinking.

So even though many of us could make the shot in question with our own weapons, practice will be very important to pull it off with one shot using a weapon that is new to him.

Ahh! That would be a challenge - Standing up, one handed, no rest, iron sights, 2.5lb trigger.

Here's a 10 shot string I'm quite proud of, shot just like that at 25 yds, in my competing days, with a .22 Britarms target pistol. (I wish I could do it now. :))

50 feet ...just shy of 17 yards! About any bull barreled 22 rimfire is capable of this! My 45 could do this as well. Take his money...

I didn't see anything saying it had to be the first shot of the day, just the first shot of the session. Go out early and shoot some fowlers. Easy money!

Any one of my 10+ XPs could do that all day long and I would take the bet at 100 w all of them and 200 with most.

Also at 50 feet my walther with red dot bullseye gun and 22 marvel conversion would also do it easily

I have an XP100 in .221 Fireball and a Nighthawk .22 conversion that I would also feel comfortable enough to take that bet as well.
