A 600yd 30-30

Just shows us that the old 30-30 can be made to do way more than it has been thought it could, all these years, but it must be put into a bolt or good single shot action, with a good barrel. And some different loads worked up with a good bullet. Surprise folks, how an old timer can be made to do what many believe a super, duper mag, etc. can only do.
Thanks Butch.

Here are the action pictures of my LV 30-30. Had to shoot my LV at the score nationals. I re-barreled my HV, and never set it on the scales before I headed to the nationals. I had to cut an inch off the barrel after I got back home.

The Donaldson Wasp is an accurate cartridge, but for best short-range accuracy and barrel life, it should be shortened by 1/4". The 30-30 is actually the perfect powder capacity for the 30 caliber bore. There is a lot of potential in the new 6.8 SPC based cartridges like the 224 Valkyrie. Remember that all of these new cartridges are actually rimless 30-30 based cartridges. The 30 Remmington is a rimless 30-30.

More on the 30-30. We know it can generate bullet energies in the 308 and 30-06 range. Here is how it groups in comparison to the 6 PPC. First year was against 41 other shooters, second year was against a similar number. The 200-yard group of .249" was shot in 20 mph winds.

That’s awesome

The Purple Haze is in three weeks. Dan Dowling and Tom Stiner are still running the matches at LandsEnd Benchrest Club.

Thanks for sharing

It sorta reminds me of the .303 British although it's some shorter. It's sort of a Pygmalion story for the 30-30.

I'm a fan of the 6.8 and the case design. Has there been any development with the case and 30 cal bullets? I just wish it was easier to get a bolt with a .420" face.

In the IBS hunter gun realm, the 30 Aardvark was a semi-popular chambering as it has enough water capacity to be a true hunter rifle. it's based on the 30-30 case with some modification. Gary Long and Frank McKee used to shoot it in hunter competition and they were hard to beat. Frank, arguably, was the best of the best for many years. Gary was a fine, fine gunsmith and did most all of Frank's work. I miss seeing both of them at matches.

I don't know how popular the chambering was (is) in the NBRSA hunter gun realm.
