A .284 from .277 Sig Fury?

Has anyone started to neck up the .277 Fury to .284?
Looks to be a winner but waiting for Sig to get around to offering their own version may be a long wait.
Faster than a 284 SAUM, .284 Win or Shehane with less powder {hopefully longer barrel life and less recoil too!}
Only Sig is making a rifle with action components that will handle the reported 80K pressure but a re-barrel with a 7mm barrel of 28"-30" has me thinking of a new F Open winner.
The Sig rifle is well under $2K so it is a "doable" project without taking a second mortgage on the house...
Had a 7mm Rem Mag 1,000 yd rifle about 38 years ago but found it hard to find places to shoot that discipline around S Cal in those days {Ah, sweet bird of youth, where have you flown...?}
Also that big case of powder knocked the starch out of a shoulder after about 25-35 rnds!
Any opinions/suggestions from those who have played around with building an exotic would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Fire Dog
BTW: I currently shoot F Open with a 6BR and holding well {put down a 118.8 out of a possible 120.20 at 700 yds last week} (English scoring system in OZ) until 800 & +, then it gets lots harder...

I don't believe there is a source of the bi metal brass/steel case head which you would need for the 80PSI, other than pulling apart sig factory ammunition (4$ a round) unless there is a direct sale option somewhere on their website.

I suspect the suggested wildcat wouldn't be much if any better than the more std chamberings as regards barrel life. Sure, less powder should give lower recoil with lower rocket effect but 80K psi can't be nice on a throat..

$52.49/100 Primed New Sig Cases Delivered....shows to have 16,500 in stock.

I like the idea of a 7mm in an ar10….much less than 80k PSI though (maybe 65-68k though).

Using standard (brass) cases for the conversion it would be nearly identical to the 7-08 Rem.
From what I've been told resizing the base can be difficult with the bi-metal base. Then finding the right powder to get 80kpsi is another matter

The FURY is a 7mm-RPC altered for the 277 ARMY projectile. Initially, the Reamer was listed with PT&G. The final "7mm Rum Punch Colonial" is designed to use the neck shoulder junction of the 7mm SAUM. This is so you can take Quality 308 brass and, with a single pass through a 7mm SAUM Die and VIOLA, produce the 7mm RPC. The improved 30-degree 7mm case was designed to shoot Hornady's 162 ELDX bullets.

In fact, the only initial version of the RPC that was altered to the 27 caliber, the FURY, was intended for Military use and developed by SIG, using the 2-piece case similar to the Shell-Shock Technology Cases I recommended, which, in reality, turned the case into a Magnum. All other Calibers, anything from 22-6mm-.257-6.5mm & even .308 are 1st and foremost "RPCs". Now that the FURY has been in production for years and Cases are available, anyone can change the Caliber.

I designed the RPC, and the RPC's shoulder height was changed to the "SGLC" shoulder height for the pre-existing LOAD DATA published by Layne Simpson years ago. This was possible because the ARMY's .277 armor-piercing bullet was short and stubby, leaving room for a slightly taller case that could still fit inside the existing SR-25 Magazines' outside dimensions. (Since then, the feed lips have been altered solely for the 27 caliber to feed more efficiently in the SIG platform, and the ARMY has incorporated all kinds of bullet weights and lengths.)

Ironically, these days everyone thinks they have re-invented the wheel by necking up or down the FURY case when all along they were RPCs First. When dealing with expanding the FURYs 277 neck you take a chance of having a donut. A common workaround used by competition shooters is not to seat the bullet bearing surface past the neck-shoulder junction, a good example of this is the 7-6.5 PRC. Personally, I have not played with the 2-piece cases.

Frankly, I am disappointed that commercial Rifle manufacturers are not making the 27 FURY bolt-action rifles available to the masses, as in its own right would be an outstanding platform for a great hunting rig in a short action instead of the 270 Winchester's standard Action length. (RPCs are my intellectual property, and I named the .277 version the "FURY".)

Bzzzzt!

It has been resized to 6.5mm i am told. I do not know if its been necked up to 284 yet.
My 260AI and my 277fury cases share almost the same case capacity and body length. The only real differences are the shouler angle, 35° vs 40°, and 264 vs 277 neck ID.
I have a bunch of Fury cases so I am going to use the Fury cases for my next 260AI barrel. Very simple case transition.

The Fury is NOT based off any PRC case. It's off a modified bi-metal 260-308 case.
