9mm shotshells

Saw some #4 at a distributors website the other day. They listed 9mm with #4 shot. They were out of stock of course but I put my name in the hat to be notified when they came back in stock.

What size shot is in the store bought capsules for 9mm and 10mm? I think they use #12 shot in the 22 shot shells, seems like #12 would be pretty small and lose energy quickly. I have CRS, but think I remember hearing 22 rat shot (#12) won't kill a rat an more than 10 feet???????

I killed a starling with a .22 shotshell at about 5-10 yards. Didn't measure it off bit it was on a power line near my house when I was many years younger. Did the job.
