95 SMK optimum velocity

What's the minimum velocity that I ought to shoot for in a 10 twist .243 using these bullets. I'm guessin that I need to run them as fast as I can safely. Am I right about this?? By the way my rifle sports a 27in. Krieger.

I checked the review but I didn't see where he stated the twist on his 6br. I was just wonderin if a slower twist [ie. 10 twist] might negate the acuracy potential of that bullet if pushed below a certain velocity level? In other words if I'm getting mediocre groups, would increasing the velocity be one of the logical things to experiment with in a 10 twist with this particular bullet? What would you, as a more more experienced shooter/s [I've never shot competitively] advise?

I shot them in a 10twist 243 Tikka AND my ~8.5 twist Broughton 6BR.

Tikka 243 10 twist at 200yds: 3 shot groups 41.5, 42.0, 42.5 H4350 got around 3075fps and incredible accuracy. All 3 three shot groups were at or under .75" at 200.

10 Twist at 1000yds: I ran the middle load,42.0) at 1000-yds and had to hold in the trees to get on paper due to non-angled scope. I managed to get the last couple shots on paper after figuring out where to hold in the trees and the 3 shots showed minimal vertical, under 2" IIRC) and made perfectly round holes.

6BR also ran them about 3080 with just under 32gns R15. I worked up a load fairly quickly and shot a 10-shot group at 1000

as you can see, 9 shots were in ~4.5" I am thinking I may have been able to drop the vertical flyers by pointing the meplats...but never tried it.

So, it seems they liked it somewhere between 3050-3100 in my 2 rifles...

HTH,
Jason

p.s. - Sierra has all of the targets from the 10 twist 243...I guess they wanted to make sure their tail was covered and recommend a 9tw.

I'm gonna keep tryin. I was runnin at 3008fps with 42.7gr of RL-22.. Maybe some of the new RL-17 or Hodg hybrid? 3/4 100yd. groups is not good enough. I might just try the Bergers. Thanks for the replies. Always get some good out of the comments on this forum.
