Got a really great deal on an AR10 upper chambered in .243 Winchester with a 20" SS Lothar Walther 1/10 twist barrel. Plans were to keep the upper, bcg, charging handle and sell off the barrel and free float tube which would basically cover the cost the of what I orignally paid.
After thinking it over and doing some quickloads calculations I should be able to get the 95 gr pills close to 3000 fps which would be more that adequate for 600 yards shooting. Only problem is that Seirra reccommends a 1/7-1/8 twist barrel for the 95 gr SMK.
I used the length of the Berger 95 gr VLDs I have on hand and plugged that in the Greenhill's formula which gave me a 1/9 twist. Maybe a 1/10 will work? Has anyone had success with the 95 gr SMK in a 1/10 twist or could you please tell me the overall length of the bullet so I can see what Greenhill's suggests.
