943yd kill shot on video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAOyY6yO9MQ

hey guys, I thought you might like to see this. it was from a little varmint hunting trip recently.
i'm shooting a custom 300RUM, jewell, nightforce, kreiger, etc, etc...
it was my first shot of the day, so obviously a cbs.

shooting 185gr VLD's over 92gr of RL25.

I've heard that Berger VLDs are a good hunting round, I'd say that it is - that thing's legs fell from under it and that goat was anchored.

Wayne

i've been really happy with bergers so far. killed some coyotes, and a couple deer with the 185's so far.

and yes cbs, is cold bore shot.

The trace looks like you might have got him in the spine, also the way he folded. A fine, clean kill, and a good video too. Thanks for sharing. I watched it 3 times.

i did get him right in the spine. the bullets did a lot of damage, and lodged just under the skin on the off side. pretty impressive performance with that bullet from that far away.

I could see what looked like an arch of mirage heading right out twoard the target animal when I viewed the video. Could that possibly have been the air turbulance caused by the bullet??

What you saw is called "bullet trace".

I preface this with great wind call and great shot. Your skills and obvious practice show, but if you have wounded him in the ass would you have shown that video. Really mean no disrespect just curious. Stephen

So for a .5 MOA wind dope what was the wind blowing at 2 or 3 mph? I do not have my calculator at work with me.

I don't speak for anybody but myself, but if I had took the shot and hit him in the ass, I would not have posted the video. Nobody would have wanted to see it, and I wouldn't have wanted to show it. I have done some things that I would not willingly admit to, let alone document. One thing that would have happened though is that there would have been a search and tracking until I found the animal dead or until I could finish it off. I might have posted the final result, but not a video.

Outstanding shot! Ignore the “I can’t shoot that far so it must be unethical comment.” I know how hard it is, and how much work goes into making it ethical. If you had posted a 200 yard shot, the comment would never have been made, as if you can’t screw up a 200 yard shot. I’ve lost one animal I shot at 50 feet. A ridiculous comment, if the poster had wounded an animal at 100 yards would he have posted it? Of course not, he’s a jerk. Again, outstanding shot, good video, thanks for sharing.

I'm gonna have to say 943 yards is show-boating and irresponsible. Go shoot paper at 1K and compete against others. There is absolutely no reason why you could not stalk closer to take a more certain shot. You do not respect the animals you are hunting and put show-boating ahead of your responsibilities. What would you have done if you wounded the animal? Nothing, because you were too damned far to even find his blood trail. Thanks for showing everyone what irresponsible hunting looks like.

you don't know me, and you have no idea what level of respect I have for animals that I shoot at....

also, you are entitled to your opinion.

Scotharr I have to chime in here. As far as blood trails go. You walk to where the critter was and then you start looking. I do not see how this is any different than any other tracking. The only difference is how far you need to walk. Bow hunters have to walk less to start he would have to go a little farther. With that being said out of all the bow hunting shows I have seen on TV only two critters dropped when hit with an arrow. Every other critter had to be tracked. So this question is not very valid. Some blood trails are hard to see when you are standing right next to it. That is part of the reason there are sprays that make blood glow or turn fluorescent. Since you do shoot 1000 yds you should know how easy it is to dope for almost no wind. Distance is easy just range it. Granted you do have angle to work with but this shot looked very level.

There are far more irresponsible hunters than there are long range hunters total. This includes all other forms for hunters from bow to the guys shot shoot super mags out to 300yds.

Also he had a reason not to walk closer he had the skills to pay the bills. Does everyone else? Heck no. I have I taken long range shots on critters? Heck yes I have. Do I also shoot over 1000rds a year at long range? Yes. Is it expensive you know it is.
